The Souris Basin Development Authority is requesting, through thisEnvironmental Impact Statement, a license from the Saskatchewan Department ofEnvironment to construct the Rafferty Dam, the Alameda Dam and relatedappurtenances on the Souris River system in southeastern Saskatchewan. Thispublication is Chapter 8 of the Environmental Impact Statement, presenting anassessment of the water quality related impact associated with the Project, including a description and interpretation of existing water quality in therelevant areas, prediction and evaluation of potential water quality impactsassociated with the proposed projects, and identification and evaluation ofmitigative/remedial actions for any identified adverse impacts. This geographical area under consideration was limited to just below Nickle Laketo the international boundary for the main stem, the lower portion of Boundary Reservoir on Long Creek, and the lower reach of Moose MountainCreek. Information for the assessment consisted of available water qualitydata from Saskatchewan and Canadian data banks, together with Americaninformation at the border crossing, and previous reports and studies respecting wter quality or other activities affecting the project. No newfield information was obtained nor was additional water quality surveillanceundertaken.
