A Mission and Status Review was announced by Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Stephen Byers in July 1999, and its conclusions were announced in July 2000. He said the Review presented an opportunity to take a fundamental look at what the ECGD did, in order to establish a clear mission statement for its future role and the challenges of the 21st century.
