Mindum, an amber durum, continues the highest yielding variety. A comparison of Marquis and Kota over a 3-year period previous to 1923, showed an advantage in yield for Marquis of 1.2 bushels. In a 4-year average, including the bad rust year of 1923, the yields are alike, 15.8 bushels for Marquis and 15.5 bushels for Kota. During the last season Kota outyielded Marquis by only a small margin, but the test Weight per bushel was 57 for Kota and 54.5 for Marquis. Yields in both cases were computed on the basis of 60 pounds per bushel. Strains of Kota numbered 2196, 2197, and 2198 are selections for stiffness of straw.
