Suspended sediment concentration (SSC) is one of the most important water quality parameters. After corrected by 6S atmospheric model, the spectral profiles of water reflectivity of ASTER data are analyzed. There is greater difference in spectral visible and near-infrared bands than that in spectral short wave infrared bands. The higher SSC is, the larger RR/RG is, in which RG and RR are the reflectivity of green band (channel 1) and red band (channel 2). So SSC may be expressed as the function of RR/RG: SSC = f(RR/RG). The quantitative remote sensing model for estimating SSC in coastal waters is founded. The model is well applied in coastal waters of the Yellow River Delta in China. Key Words- ASTER data, suspended sediment concentration, quantitative remote sensing analysis.

Sediment dynamics in fluvial systems is of great ecological, economic and human-health-related significance worldwide. Appropriate management strategies are therefore needed to limit maintenance costs as well as minimize potential hazards to the aquatic and adjacent environments. Human intervention, ranging from nutrient/pollutant release to physical modifications, has a large impact on sediment quantity and quality and thus on river morphology as well as on ecological functioning. Truly understanding sediment dynamics requires as a consequence a multidisciplinary approach.River Sedimentation contains the peer-reviewed scientific contributions presented at the 13th International Symposium on River Sedimentation (ISRS 2016, Stuttgart, Germany, 19-22 September 2016), and includes recent accomplishments in theoretical developments, numerical modelling, experimental laboratory work, field investigations and monitoring as well as management methodologies.

This book focuses on the phenomenon of sediment erosion and resuspension in the Yellow River delta, China, which is a vital issue involved in understanding the sediment transport processes in estuarine and coastal environments, and how these contribute to the nature and distribution of geohazards in the subaqueous Yellow River delta and Bohai Sea. The most important sections of this book will be the detailed physical mechanisms and theoretical models of sediment erosion and resuspension problem fully considering the wave-induced seabed dynamic response to waves, which are particularly useful for postgraduate students and junior researchers entering the discipline of estuary and coastal sedimentation, marine geotechnical engineering, estuary and coastal engineering, harbor and waterway engineering and coastal environmental protection. This book can also serve as a textbook for advanced graduate students of Marine Engineering Geology and Estuarine Sediment Dynamics.
