This book provides theoretical and practical backgrounds for the digital creativity management and related Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) results on the basis of a set of realistic assumptions in which several topics such as knowledge network, diversity, individual creativity, team creativity, exploration and exploitation, and organizational creativity are discussed. Until now, there has been no clear-cut methodology by which creativity management can be articulated and materialized into the business process management within companies and corporate performance. Though many approaches have been proposed to tackle the creativity research issues, this book adopts a new approach which assumes that the network structure formulated by interrelationships among team members decides individual creativity and team creativity as well, and ABM-based simulations lead to robust analysis of corporate performance over time. Typical examples of network structure under consideration in this study are degree centrality and structural hole (an opportunity to broker the flow of information between people, and control the projects that bring together people from opposite sides of the hole). This book suggests detailed analysis of source code used in implementing a prototype digital creativity simulation engine with related snap-shots and ABM results, so that readers can understand hard core of how to design and implement ABM tasks related to target problems, and extract implications from the ABM results.

This study examines the relationship between "knowledge relatedness" and performance of multibusiness firms. It defines knowledge relatedness as the extent to which a multibusiness firm uses common knowledge resources across its business units. It argues that cross-business knowledge synergies arising from knowledge relatedness are likely to improve firm performance. The study construes knowledge relatedness in terms of three complementary dimensions: (1) product knowledge relatedness, (2) customer knowledge relatedness, and (3) managerial knowledge relatedness. In a sample of 303 Fortune1000 firms, the study finds that the individual dimensions of knowledge relatedness do not have significant effects on firm performance on their own. The joint effect of the three types of knowledge relatedness on firm performance is positive and significant. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Employee selection has long stood at the practical forefront of industrial/organizational psychology. Today's social, business, and economic climates require ongoing adaptations by those who select organizations' personnel, and research on the topic helps gauge the impact of these adaptations and their implications for human performance and potential. The Oxford Handbook of Personnel Assessment and Selection codifies the wealth of new research surrounding employee selection (web-based assessments, social networking, globalization of organizations), situating them alongside more traditional practices to establish the best and most relevant research for both professionals and academics. Comprising chapters from authors in both the private sector and academia, this volume is organized into seven parts: (1) historical and social context of the field of assessment and selection; (2) research strategies; (3) individual difference constructs that underlie effective performance; (4) measures of predictor constructs; (5) employee performance and outcome assessment; (6) societal and organizational constraints on selection practice; and (7) implementation and sustainability of selection systems. While providing a comprehensive review of current research and practice, the purpose of this handbook is to provide an up-to-date profile of each of the areas addressed and highlight current questions that deserve additional attention from researchers and practitioners. This compendium is essential reading for industrial/organizational psychologists and human resource managers.

In this article we present new measures of technological and customer side relatedness constructed from widely available secondary data. Relatedness is a concept central to predicting the existence and nature of a relationship between corporate diversification and firm performance. Yet, finding appropriate measures has been an ongoing struggle. The widely used SIC-based entropy measure has low construct validity, and survey based measures are hard to replicate across firms and industries and over time. The measures we develop significantly outperform established measures in explaining variation in firm performance across firms and over time, and both sources of relatedness are found to be independent and significant explanations of firm performance.
