Excerpt from The Register of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials in St. Michael's Parish, Cambridge, 1538-1837 College, and consequently the incumbents have been members of that foundation. It may be added that the volume here published is from a transcript carefully made for the purpose by Mr Rogers, assistant at the University Library, who has had considerable experience in such matters, and whose skill and accuracy may be thoroughly trusted. It was collated by him with the original; in some cases where he was in doubt, or where (in respect of certain students) almost illegible names could be made out by aid of college records, he consulted with me. The original has been followed as precisely as possible in all respects, except that the baptisms, marriages, and burials have been kept separate throughout. Also, in respect mainly of the later entries (where the register was kept in a very slovenly manner, and is apparently written by a parish clerk or church warden) a few very minute alterations have been made, at the suggestion of a member of the Society, such as the uniform adoption of Arabic numerals for the dates, and the substitution of the for ye, etc. A few explanatory notes are added, but it may be pointed out that nearly all the names of members of Caius College will be found included in the published volume (university Press, 1887) of the earlier admissions at that College.
