Download Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Download Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance, Second Edition Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This second edition of Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance provides a solid foundation for pavement engineers seeking relevant and applicable design and construction instruction. It relies on general principles instead of specific ones, and incorporates illustrative case studies and prime design examples to highlight the material. It presents a thorough understanding of materials selection, mixture proportioning, design and detailing, drainage, construction techniques, and pavement performance. It also offers insight into the theoretical framework underlying commonly used design procedures as well as the limits of the applicability of the procedures. All chapters have been updated to reflect recent developments, including some alternative and emerging design technologies that improve sustainability. What’s New in the Second Edition: The second edition of this book contains a new chapter on sustainability, and coverage of mechanistic-empirical design and pervious concrete pavements. RCC pavements are now given a new chapter. The text also expands the industrial pavement design chapter. Outlines alternatives for concrete pavement solutions Identifies desired performance and behavior parameters Establishes appropriate materials and desired concrete proportions Presents steps for translating the design into a durable facility The book highlights significant innovations such as one is two-lift concrete pavements, precast concrete pavement systems, RCC pavement, interlocking concrete pavers, thin concrete pavement design, and pervious concrete. This text also addresses pavement management, maintenance, rehabilitation, and overlays.

In conducting this investigation, detailed surveys on 85 pavement projects in 7 States were made. These pavements were generally under 15 years old, and reinforced and continuously reinforced pavements. The results of this investigation are contained in the report as prepared by PCA. Some of the aspects of Portland Cement Concrete pavements covered include: 1) Categories and characteristics of PCC pavements; 2) Pavement problems, their causes and required maintenance; 3) A pavement performance and condition survey; 4) A charted summary, design, and construction practices of the states (available separately on request); 5) Construction and maintenance costs, and 6) Design and construction recommendations.

Download Concrete Pavement Design Guidance Notes Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This comprehensive design guide summarizes current developments in the design of concrete pavements. Following an overview of the theory involved, the authors detail optimum design techniques and best practice, with a focus on highway and infrastructure projects. Worked examples and calculations are provided to describe standard design methods, illustrated with numerous case studies. The author provides guidance on how to use each method on particular projects, with reference to UK, European and US standards and codes of practice. Concrete Pavement Design Guidance Notes is an essential handbook for civil engineers, consultants and contractors involved in the design and construction of concrete pavements, and will also be of interest to students of pavement design.

Download Two-lift Portland Cement Concrete Pavements to Meet Public Needs Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The report reviews the past work in the United States and internationally in the development of two-lift pavements. It points out the strengths and limitations in the construction of such portland cement concrete pavements. Certain cost, mix design, and construction problems are inhibiting the growth of this product. Changes in the availability of aggregates, knowledge of materials and new construction equipment, and the desire for specific surfaces to meet noise, durability, and safety are prompting the need to reconsider this type of construction.

Download The Concrete Pavement Road Map Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The Concrete Pavement (CP) Road Map is a comprehensive and strategic plan for concrete pavement research that will guide the investment of research dollars for the next several years. It will result in technologies and systems that help the concrete pavement community meet the paving needs of today, and the as-yet unimagined paving challenges of tomorrow. In short, the CP Road Map will result in a new generation of concrete pavements for the 21st century.

Download Portland Cement Concrete Resurfacing Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This synthesis report will be of special interest to pavement designers, materials engineers, and others seeking information on portland cement concrete resurfacings (overlays) placed over both portland and asphalt cement concrete pavements. Information is presented on the various practices in use for the design, material selection, and construction techniques associated with each pavement type. Additional information is provided on resurfacing experience and performance, including an Appendix cataloging more than 700 existing resurfacing projects in North America. Transportation agencies in the United States are continuing to develop pavement management systems which take an objective and structured approach to life-cycle cost analysis requirements for pavement rehabilitation project analysis. This report of the Transportation Research Board also discusses the considerations involved in the selection of technically feasible resurfacing alternatives. Based on the longitudinal experience of 375 resurfacing projects that were cataloged in 1982 and the more than 700 projects identified in 1993, much useful information on the performance characteristics of portland cement concrete resurfacing is presented.
