Download Rebuilding Devastated Economies in the Middle East Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This book analyzes the political obstacles to economic recovery, and the economic consequences of democratic political reforms. The contributors focus on rulers of shaky states where civil strife has caused economic devastation. If rebuilding requires regime change, are we asking these governments to put themselves out of business?

Download What Prospects for Stabilisation and Reconstruction in the Middle East and North Africa?. Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
A common assumption among policy-makers and pundits is that stabilisation and reconstruction will come after conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa region have been settled. Indeed, in most previous cases, conflict settlements - brought about by the decisive victory of one party or by the successful conclusion of a peace agreement - had always preceded post-war stabilisation. Internationally-assisted reconstruction, intended as both the physical rebuilding of destroyed infrastructure and the rehabilitation of the economy and governance institutions, were considered part and parcel of stabilisation efforts.

Rebuild by Design (RBD) was developed for the 'Presidential Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force' after hurricane Sandy hit the North-East Coast of the United States in October-November, 2012. Using an innovative, designdriven process based on the design competition model, Rebuild by Design places local communities and civic leaders at the heart of a robust, interdisciplinary creative process to generate implementable solutions for a more resilient region. This book aims not so much to illustrate what Rebuild by Design did, but to reflect on it, assess it in all its aspects and embed it in a broader context to offer a guide for to politicians, designers, change managers, community leaders, researchers, activists and others, offering future approaches wherever climate-change induced, water-related urban challenges arise. Download Gender Mainstreaming Case Study Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Two projects in Sri Lanka employed participatory approaches, bringing key stakeholders together and facilitating women's involvement---the North East Coastal Community Development Project which was aimed to improve sustainable livelihood and natural resource management in poor coastal communities, and Component B of the Tsunami-Affected Areas Rebuilding Project, which was designed to provide an emergency response to urgent post-tsunami reconstruction challenges. This case study looks at the gender dimensions of two projects that focus on the community development component that advocated community participation, social inclusion, and gender equality in community infrastructure development and livelihood restoration processes in targeted communities.
