And hence but few tremble at its solemn precepts and warnings: very few seem to feel and to acknowledge its paramount claims and authority. Most unconverted men have, of course, but little regard for it: and even in the Church, its laws and its institutions are, by many, treated with more indifference than the petty rules and regulations of a borough police.
