Shortly before the twins' ninth birthday, the jasmine vine erupts from the earth, bringing disruption to the peaceful life at Jasmina. Across country, the arrowhead awakens, and passion runs rife when Evan and Georgie attempt to rekindle their love. Life's usual quirks complicate the situation for Georgie who now has two boisterous boys in tow, and along with Tom Johnson's latest scheme to throw the Adams family into a whirlwind of confusion, nothing is ever as simple as it seems. Continuing in the family tradition, intriguing twists and turns, the usual lost phones and breathless encounters form the backdrop to the fifth book in the continuation of this delightfully frustrating family saga, where the men, seeking no more than their little piece of heaven, hope that love is waiting just around the corner, over the hill...

Synetra Leaphart was born Synetra Evette Howard on July 14, 1965. She is an Atlanta native, reared with birth parents, the late Bishop John D. Howard and Missionary Johnnie Lee Howard, along with 12 other biological siblings. She co-labored with her husband to found New Hope Christian Ministries in July 2001. The Lord has inspired her to develop several ministries within New Hope Cathedral, such as: My Sister My Keeper Women's Ministry, Daughters of Divine Destiny Young Ladies Mentoring Ministry, New Members Services, Café New Hope, NH Grief Ministry, and the community Good News Club. As a result of her love for God's children, she was inspired to write Scent of Heaven, a motivational book which gives the reader daily spiritual vitamins to encourage the soul. She dedicates the book to the late matriarchs of her life, mother Johnnie Lee Howard, Mother in love, Lois Leaphart, grandmother Ma Pat (Elsie Jackson) and sister, Phyllis Ann Johnson as well as her father, the late Bishop John D. Howard, who instilled in her spiritual foundations, values and commitment. They all played a major role in aiding her to become the woman she is today. They are the wind beneath her wings... Synetra retired with 28 years of service in October 2010 from Ga Department of Human Resources. She walks fervently beside her husband, assisting him in all his endeavors. She is a constant source of great strength, love and empowerment to others. Her Godly and positive influence has brought many to Christ. She exemplifies the gift of wisdom and knowledge in both the body of Christ as well as the community. Her complete dedication and unselfish service reflect the blessed hope of Jesus Christ for the church (His bride). She has been the proud wife of Pastor-Dr. Richard Leaphart, since October 8, 1988 and mother of Senora age 25 - a graduate of Fort Valley State University and is now completing her Master's Degree, Rachel age 21 - a junior at Clark Atlanta University, maternal aunt of her niece Menyada age 32 and Maurita Johnson age 31.

Ed: following is the Thomas-Nelson-Australia’s 1977 blurb for the original edition, but here annotated, in italics, by the author for this reprint. ‘Bill Reed’s first novel is a celebration of the Australian language. ‘Dogod’ employs a language that uses our sounds, our national images, our landscapes and our slang to examine our rhythms and forms of speech. Leading back through the images-as-words of Joyce, Carroll, Thackeray and Shakespeare…’ (I thought I was the one making with the jokes here?) ‘… here is a lament for the human condition as it is affected in modern times.’ (I lamented a bit over the manuscript too. All I know was it was a neat pile of typescript pages but next morning it had paws marks all over it.) ‘As a bone to a dog, so are we as toys to the gods. Hence Dog-god – a chaotic deity tossing and pouncing with bestial delight on His/Its favourite human plaything, Jelf. A walking disaster area, Jelf hardly needs Dogod’s assistance to attract the natural and unnatural contempt of his associates as he lurches on his apocalyptic journey…’ ( ‘apocalyptic’ is first-class; with his allotted dog pass, Jelf travels Economy) ‘… through Australia’s visible and invisible landscapes.’ ‘’Dogod’ is both funny and profound. It is an examination of the comic-tragedy that is within each of us, and within our society. Its wit, its humour and its deeper purposes are brilliantly sustained. Its challenge is for you the reader.’ (At least putting reader, singular, was spot on.) (NB: Also, there’s nothing about the plot here. I remember distinctly that there was one – as in Jelf chasing Alyce chasing Quilty chasing Henry chasing a whole host of others or vice versa, while the Australian dream – really doggedly -- chases them all and keeps spoiling the plot like the real hound it is.) --------- About the author Bill Reed is a playwright, novelist and short-story wroughtist. He dangles, shaken, hanging from the pelt.
