Fabrications and Contradictions; these have been two of the most resourceful tools in the Shīʿah box of tricks. Many neatly crafted propaganda books were brought into circulation during the past century. These books include Peshawar Nights, al-Murājaʿāt and Thumma Ihtadaytu (Then I was guided) by Muḥammad Tījānī Samāwī. Tījānī retells his journey of enlightenment which ultimately led to his 'guidance' to the faith of the Rāfiḍah. This fantasy tale serves as the tapestry into which his criticisms against Ṣaḥābah have been carefully woven. The lies and forgery which constitutes the bulk of his book have been patched over by empty claims of objectivity and impartiality. The success of this book has been phenomenal which resulted in it being translated into many languages including English. The Maḥajjah Institute has undertaken to undo the knots in Tījānī's work and expose it for the deceit and lies it is. In this regard they have used Khālid al-Asqalānī's Bal Ḍalalta as a guideline in their refutation of Then I was guided titled: Rather, Misguided!

Kitāb al-Saqīfa of Sulaym ibn Qays al-Hilālī, which is purportedly the oldest surviving Shīʿite (and Islamic) ḥadīth collection, is a Twelver Shīʿite text that is drenched in controversy today. Its controversy, for the most part, stems from its embodiment of an alternative Rāfiḍite rendition of the historical events following the Prophet's death, most notably, the purported assault on his daughter, Fāṭima. The controversy surrounding Kitāb Sulaym ibn Qays and its origins is not confined to the realms of Sunnī-Shīʿite polemical disputes. Rather, the book was initially criticized by some medieval Twelver authorities, who casted doubts on its integrity and/or authenticity. Despite the past criticism it had received, the book today is championed in many Twelver Shīʿite institutions and circles as an authoritative document that can be verifiably traced to the first century of Islam, hence granting it great significance and importance in many circles. This book provides an exposition of this Twelver Shīʿite document with a detailed analysis of its transmission and historicity in an attempt to discern its origins. Though Kitāb Sulaym is not the be-all and end-all of Shīʿite historiography surrounding the purported tragedy of Fāṭima, it is, more or less, an important pillar of the narrative, and discerning the book's origins will prove to be a milestone in untangling this historical narrative.

While Syria has been dominated since the 1960s by a determinedly secular regime, the 2011 uprising has raised many questions about the role of Islam in the country's politics. This book demonstrates that with the eradication of the Muslim Brothers after the failed insurrection of 1982, Sunni men of religion became the only voice of the Islamic trend in the country. Through educational programs, charitable foundations and their deft handling of tribal and merchant networks, they took advantage of popular disaffection with secular ideologies to increase their influence over society. In recent years, with the Islamic resurgence, the Alawi-dominated Ba'thist regime was compelled to bring the clergy into the political fold. This relationship was exposed in 2011 by the division of the Sunni clergy between regime supporters, bystanders and opponents. This book affords a new perspective on Syrian society as it stands at the crossroads of political and social fragmentation.
