Steven Orr is gullible and transparent, easily manipulated and coerced into believing the impossible. He married out of his class and couldn't cope with the pressure of trying to prove his self worth. He was too preoccupied trying to demonstrate he could make money on his own. He develops an unholy alliance with Al Bates, a radio talk show host who creates an elaborate and deceptive scheme formed around the voices and the discovery of a vortex through which they were heard. Steven's narrative is taken from his personal journal and is call for support; even though he knew no one would read it. What is real is not necessarily true and what is true is not necessarily real.
