This is a new edition! THIS BOOK HAS BEEN 100% MANUALLY TRANSCRIBED FROM THE ORIGINAL with additional contents, including photographs of the author & his family, proper attribution of poetry, and current-day information at the end of this edition for further research on Burns. This edition is copyrighted. The original works are within the public domain and may be used freely without issue. Rambles Through The Land of Burns, recently referred to as a work that is "culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it", is the work of my great-great grandfather, Archibald Reender "Renny" Adamson. Originally published in 1879, Renny Adamson was a man interested in the history of his country and its industry, and, perhaps more importantly, interested in the significant figures of the history of Scotland. While he was not a contemporary of Burns, he spoke with many of Burns' contemporaries and their descendants, as well as with Burns' sons to produce this book. Renny moved his entire family from Eastern Scotland to Western Scotland in order to research and produce this and one other book. Shortly after moving his family to Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland, he produced this book as a completely self-published work. And, had Burns lived into his sixties or so, he would likely have been my relative's contemporary, a fellow author.Rambles Through The Land of Burns is a walk through the very places where Robert Burns found his inspiration, met his loves, and raised his children. County Ayr serves as the centerpoint of this masterpiece where Renny weaves Burns' poetry into the description of places and stories about how and where Burns lived. He gives explanation to the Pow Brig, the Warlock Lord of Fail, and many other subjects of Burns' humor in order to set the scene for the reader. He takes you through the stories of Burns' loves (from Nelly to Mary, to his wife, Jean) and his heirs.Though the poetry may be in Old Scottish in many cases, the meaning in each poem is clear and, with descriptions of the landscape and the culture by Renny Adamson, this book truly brings what Burns saw and how he lived and the world he experienced. Within these pages you'll learn how some of Scotland's industries developed and where they started. You'll envision "then current day" scientists discovering long-buried artifacts. And you'll discover Burns' deep sense of humor and his feelings about the government and religion (and its treatment of its congregants). You'll get to participate with the author in reliving the religious festivals, services, and pagan rituals and see Burns' humor in them, and you'll find humorous conversations between inanimate objects. A foreword has been added to this edition, all footnotes have been moved to the end of the book, an accolade has been added that appeared in the Western Nebraskian, and a listing of websites to which the reader may visit to learn more about the Land of Burns is included. It is an entirely new edition published by me, his great-great granddaughter. Poems that previously did not reflect attribution (as may have appeared on headstones) have been given proper attribution. Completely re-typeset, this edition is more easily readable. It is with pleasure that this book is re-published and presented to new generations of Burns' fans and to those who love Scottish history.
