In the past two decades the radiological investigation and imaging of paranasal sinus disease has been revolutionised by the introduction of two new techniques: magnetic resonance and computerised tomography. These have made the diagnosis and localisation of neoplastic and non-neoplastic disease a far more exact process and they have completely replaced con ventional pluridirectional tomography as a means of augmenting the initial plain radiographic examination of the paranasal sinuses. The recent introduction into clinical practice of the paramagnetic contrast agent gadolinium DTPA has extended further the range of magnetic resonance in the demonstration of naso-sinus disease. The account which follows is an attempt to summarise present knowledge in this division of otorhinolaryngology imaging. The format of the chapters has been arranged in two halves: the initial nine chapters are concerned with investigative techniques and non-neoplastic disease. while the second half of the book is entirely devoted to benign and malignant tumours. The latter chapters are arranged according to the nomenclature proposed by my two ex-colleagues. Professor I. Friedmann and the late Dr D. A. Osborn. in their book The Pathology of Granulomas and Neoplasms of the Nose and Paranasal Sinuses (Churchill Livingstone. 1982).

Computed tomography is presently reaching maturity with its high-resolution reconstruction programs, as a result of which conventional tomography has definitely been surpassed. High-resolution computed tomo graphy does indeed provide a better spatial resolution and can provide not only images of surfaces but also of deeper structures as well, such as muscles and fatty areas. Furthermore, it allows examination of the intra cranial contents and examination of possible intracranial tumor invasion. It is therefore necessary to establish the rich potential of normal and pathological images. By writing this book Dr. Gertrude Maatman has undertaken this task and she has performed it well. In particular, I appreciate the way she has treated the CT-anatomy. All normal structures have been methodically identified. In this way, Dr. Maatman conveys the message of the importance of a sound anatom ical basis, which is the only guarantee of a correct interpretation of pathological cases. This atlas will greatly facilitate description of the precise localization of a lesion and its extension to the surrounding structures. I would like to congratulate the author of this highly accurate and didactic work, that should be used by the student as well as by the experienced radiologist. I wish this book every success.

Part of the Clinico Radiological Series, this book provides a multidisciplinary overview of diagnostic imaging for sinonasal disorders. Divided into seven sections, the text begins with an introduction to normal anatomy and imaging techniques. The following sections discuss imaging and pathology of different sinonasal diseases including inflammatory nasal conditions, tumours and tumour-like disorders, trauma, and congenital and systemic diseases. Emphasis is placed on the importance of image interpretation and a complete chapter is dedicated to functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) imaging. The comprehensive text is enhanced by nearly 500 radiological images and tables, and includes illustrative cases and guidance on structured reporting format. Other titles in the Clinico Radiological Series include Temporal Bone Imaging (9789385891908) and Imaging of Interstitial Lung Diseases (9789386322517). Key Points Multidisciplinary guide to diagnostic imaging for sinonasal disorders Part of the Clinico Radiological series Includes chapter on functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) imaging Highly illustrated with radiological images, tables and clinical cases

This is the only book dedicated solely to frontal sinus disorders. It is a richly illustrated and comprehensive mine of information on the anatomy and management of these disorders. This updated second edition offers much new information. Additional topics include balloon dilation, frontal surgery as part of skull base surgery, and advances in endoscopic techniques and tools that have occurred since 2004 and have made open osteoplastic procedures almost obsolete. The anatomy and surgery of the supraorbital ethmoid cell and its significance in the pathology of frontal sinus disease are also covered. Throughout the book, particularly important areas of text are highlighted and core messages, emphasized. Videos of described procedures are available online.
