Excerpt from Public Instruction in Sardinia: An Account of the System of Education, and of the Institutions of Science and Art, in the Kingdom of Sardinia Metaphysics are divided into three parts psychology, cosmology, and theology. In the first is considered the nature of the human soul, and its simplicity and spirituality is demonstrated by its three fundamental faculties. The origin of the human soul, its connection with the body, and its immortality form the other subjects of psychology. Cosmology considers the world in its ultimate reasons, and treats of the nature of contingent beings and of their cause, of the general order of the world, and establishes the general cosmic laws, to which all created beings are submitted. Theology is preceded by an introduction, in which are laid down the principles of ontology, viz.: the science which considers the being in its unity of essence and in its trinity of forms. This leads the mind to theology, in which the existence of God is demonstrated, his at tributes described, and especially the relation of the creating act, both with the act of the divine essence and of the creatures themselves, is considered.
