Este manual pretende aproximarnos a un planteamiento metodológico extraordinariamente potente para la educación infantil intentando satisfacer criterios de rigor científico y utilidad práctica para el docente. El movimiento y la acción sobre el entorno físico son un puente privilegiado hacia el aprendizaje y el de­sarrollo en el niño. La construcción sensomotriz de la capacidad cognitiva en las primeras edades viene asociada a la necesidad del niño de ex­perimentar e interaccionar con su entorno social como base del de­sarrollo de su identidad personal y su personalidad. Podemos utilizar la psicomotricidad como una forma global de abordar el currículo en educación infantil desde una perspectiva integradora que fomenta una actitud activa y creativa en los niños o cuando menos puede representar una valiosa técnica para complementar el planteamiento curricular del docente de esta etapa. En los dos primeros capítulos de este libro se recorren los conceptos psico-evolutivos que deben fundamentar la práctica psicomotriz intentando conciliar los planteamientos teóricos con numerosos ejemplos de la vida cotidiana y del contexto de la educación infantil. El tercer capítulo analiza a fondo la práctica educativa de la psicomotricidad y su valor como estrategia metodológica para favorecer el desarrollo infantil. El cuarto capítulo profundiza en las distintas necesidades educativas especiales y su tratamiento en el aula de psicomotricidad desde una perspectiva inclusiva. Por último, se adjuntan numerosos anexos prácticos que ayudan al educador a aprovechar al máximo la psicomotricidad: escalas de desarrollo, criterios de evaluación, guías de estimulación sensorial, orientaciones respecto a la preparación de la sala y las sesiones, etc.
