“A bold, new voice.” —People “A nuanced addition to the #MeToo conversation.” —Vice A young survivor tells her searing, visceral story of sexual assault, justice, and healing in this gutwrenching memoir. The numbers are staggering: nearly one in five girls ages fourteen to seventeen have been the victim of a sexual assault or attempted sexual assault. This is the true story of one of those girls. In 2014, Chessy Prout was a freshman at St. Paul’s School, a prestigious boarding school in New Hampshire, when a senior boy sexually assaulted her as part of a ritualized game of conquest. Chessy bravely reported her assault to the police and testified against her attacker in court. Then, in the face of unexpected backlash from her once-trusted school community, she shed her anonymity to help other survivors find their voice. This memoir is more than an account of a horrific event. It takes a magnifying glass to the institutions that turn a blind eye to such behavior and a society that blames victims rather than perpetrators. Chessy’s story offers real, powerful solutions to upend rape culture as we know it today. Prepare to be inspired by this remarkable young woman and her story of survival, advocacy, and hope in the face of unspeakable trauma.

Download Winslow Homer at Prout's Neck Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Winslow Homer was the antithesis of the unkempt bohemian artist of the nineteenth century. He not only always maintained the appearance of an English country gentleman, but was also an everyday sort of man, both in his life and his paintings. Yet he is ranked as one of America's greatest painters. The reason is not hard to discover, for Winslow Homer's powerful epic statements spoke for America with a breadth that few other artists have achieved. This is a lively, intimate, and immensely readable portrait of the artist that throws a new light on Homer's life and puts it in fresh perspective. This biography concentrates on Homer's years at Prout’s Neck on Maine’s rugged coast, where he would create his finest paintings, from 1883 until his death in 1920.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 I felt intuitively when it was time to leave my marriage. I was 29, and my husband and I had been together for 10 years. We had two children together. I felt so alone and isolated by the shame the violence in our relationship had created. #2 The times in our lives that require us to transform are based on taking actions based on how we feel. We are the conduits for realizing our emotions, and there are hundreds of different types of emotions and feelings. #3 The three most important elements in this book are to rise above fear, embrace love, and remember your power. You’ll do this through a soulful conversation with The Universe. #4 When you are at a crossroads, facing a crisis, or riding a wave of uncertainty, you should seek support and divine guidance from The Universe. You may do this when you feel like all options have been exhausted or when you are nervously wishing for a successful outcome.

Download Chasing Automation Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Chasing Automation tells the story of how a group of reform-minded politicians during the heyday of America's industrial prowess (1921–1966) sought to plan for the technological future. Beginning with Warren G. Harding and the Conference he convened in 1921, Jerry Prout looks at how the US political system confronted the unemployment caused by automation. Both liberals and conservatives spoke to the crucial role of technology in economic growth and the need to find work for the unemployed, and Prout shows how their disputes turned on the means of achieving these shared goals and the barriers that stood in the way. This political history highlights the trajectories of two premier scientists of the period, Norbert Wiener and Vannevar Bush, who walked very different paths. Wiener began quietly developing his language of cybernetics in the 1920s though its effect would not be realized until the late 1940s. The more pragmatic Bush was tapped by FDR to organize the scientific community and his ultimate success—the Manhattan Project—is emblematic of the technological hubris of the era. Chasing Automation shows that as American industrial productivity dramatically increased, the political system was at the mercy of the steady advance of job replacing technology. It was the sheer unpredictability of technological progress that ultimately posed the most formidable challenge. Reformers did not succeed in creating a federal planning agency, but they did create a enduring safety net of laws that workers continue to benefit from today as we face a new wave of automation and artificial intelligence.

Download Summary of Sarah Prout's Be the Love Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The best way to manage feelings of self-worth is to use affirmations. Say them out loud, and see how you feel. Over time, you will experience benefits such as boosted confidence and inner balance. #2 I was a deeply empathetic child, and I would often put the needs of others above my own. I was always polite, and it was expected of me to be so in front of the customers. This was setting the stage for me to become a people pleaser in adulthood. #3 I had to make the journey back to believing in my own magic, instead of holding others responsible for my past, present, or future. I became an entrepreneur who would fight with my spouse and fight to be right. #4 The pain that is created when you hurt someone you love is so heavy. You become good at playing the victim role, and you never take ownership of how you participated in the cycle of abuse.
