First Measurement of[phi] meson production in Au+Au collisions has been conducted by E917 at BNL-AGS via selecting events with identified K[sup+]K[sup[minus]] pairs. Preliminary results on the invariant mass spectra of K[sup+]K[sup[minus]] pairs and the m[sub T] spectra are presented. Also, the inverse slope T, dN/dy, the ratio of[phi]/K[sup[minus]], ratio of[phi]/K[sup+]K[sup[minus]] and their centrality dependences are extracted in a rapidity range of y= 0.9-1.4. Indications on the possible mechanisms of[phi] production are discussed.

The production of [phi] mesons from central Si+Au collisions has been measured by E859 at the BNL-AGS by selecting events with identified KK− pairs. The values for the mass and width of the [phi] obtained from the invariant mass of the kaon pairs are consistent with those of the Particle Data Book. Preliminary results for the invariant 1/2[pi]m{sub T} d2n/dm{sub T}dy distribution and dn/dy are presented. The inverse slope parameter for an exponential m{sub T} fit to the m{sub T} spectrum is 171±18 MeV. An analysis of the ratio of the [phi] signal to the combinatoric background in the K+K− invariant mass distribution provides a rough estimate of the size of the reaction region, which is found to be consistent with the E859 interferometry measurements.

Preliminary results from E-802 (Si-beam) and B-866 (Au-beam) are presented for central collisions. Meson production ([pi]'s and K's) in heavy ion collisions are discussed from light systems (A = 55) to heavy systems (A = 394). Comparisons with predictions of the cascade code ARC are carried out. The balance of energy and momentum is considered for the Au+Au data.

The first measurements of [phi] meson production in Au-Au collisions at AGS energies are presented via the decay to K K−. A measurement of the centrality dependence of the yield shows an increase similar to that seen for the K− with a spectral shape consistent with a relativistic Breit-Wigner distribution within the statistical errors of the present data set. Future analysis using the full data set with 4 times the statistics will allow a more accurate determination of the yields, slopes and spectral shapes.

Single particle inclusive spectra are presented for pion and kaon production in Si + Au reactions at an incident momentum of 14.6 A [center dot] GeV/c and Au + Au reactions at an incident momentum of 11.6 A [center dot] GeV/c. A simple geometric scaling of the pion production for central collisions as A[sub proj][sup 1/3] and A[sub targ][sup 2/3] results from the observed production of about one pion per participant. Kaon yields are shown to be proportional to the number of excited participants and consistent with RQMD and ARC calculations.
