Excerpt from Proceedings of the Bostonian Society: At the Annual Meeting, January 11, 1910 The Twenty-ninth Annual Meeting of the Bostonian Society was held in the Council Chamber of the Old State House, Boston, on Tuesday, January 11, 1910, at 3 P. M., in accordance with a notice mailed to every member. President James Frothingham Hunnewell occupied the chair, and the records of the last annual and monthly meetings were read by the Clerk, and approved. President Hunnewell then delivered his Annual Address. Fellow Members of the Bostonian Society: The current affairs of the Bostonian Society are so fully stated in the Reports of the Directors, the Treasurer, and the Committees, that they need not be retold in the President's Annual Address. In that, he may speak of Historical subjects which relate to the purposes of the Society. Two years ago I spoke of works by an important class of local authors little remembered now - the Boston Ministers, 1700 to 1775. Last year my subject was Historical Museums, of which we maintain one. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Proceedings of the Bostonian Society, at the Annual Meeting, January 10, 1893 Local pride actuates us to a certain degree in carrying out, as far as lies in our power, the Objects of the Bostonian Society To promote the study of the history of Boston and preserve its antiquities. We all know that the early history of Boston is an impor tant chapter in the history of the founders of the Great Repub lic, and the establishment of those principles of civil and religious liberty that we now enjoy. The preservation of such antiquities as can be preserved without materially inter tering with the march Of progress is of advantage, as has been frequently demonstrated, in keeping visible mementoes to perpetuate and emphasize important events that have influence upon the progress of the city or the nation. As this Society increases in years, the importance Of its work and the influence it can exert become more evident. It is not only important that we may continually recall and keep alive the early history of Boston, and the events that occurred here leading to national independence, but the history subsequent to that event, down to our own times. Excerpt from Proceedings of the Bostonian Society at the Annual Meeting, January 12, 1892 IT certainly has been a source of gratification to the origi nal members of the Bostonian Society to note from year to year the increase of public faith in this organization, to mark the development and strengthening of what in its work was once thought to be mere sentiment, and hardly worth the consideration of men of affairs. The gradual development, however, of our aims and object, from year to year, has not only attracted the attention of those whose good opinion is worth having, but has brought into our ranks of membership a host of patriotic men and women who, by word and deed, show their interest in the work in which we are engaged. Excerpt from Proceedings of the Bostonian Society at the Annual Meeting, January 11, 1898 The Seventeenth Annual Meeting of the Bostonian Society was held in the Council Chamber of the Old State House, on Tuesday, January II, 1898, at 3 P. M. In the absence of the President, on account of illness, Mr. Benjamin C. Clark, of the Board of Directors, took the chair. In calling the meeting to order, the Chairman alluded in feeling terms to the severe illness of President Guild, whom he had recently seen, and who sent through him to the Society his cordial greetings, hoping that its members might not suffer what he had been called upon to endure.
