This study was accomplished with the efforts and cooperation of a considerable number of people. Appreciation is expressed to my two counterparts, Mr. Saidou Tembely and Dr. Boubacar Kouyate. Mr. Tembely initiated the studies reported here in August, 1983, and was especially efficienct in organizing our collecting trips until his departure for additional graduate training in December, 1984. Dr. Kouyate joined the project in July, 1985, and quickly also became very involved in collection and examination of samples. Appreciation is expressed to Dr. Mody Toure, Director of the Central Veterinary Laboratory, Bamako, Mali, for his assistance in making it possible for me to become involved in this study and for his interest and backing throughout my tour of Mali. Special thanks are due Dr. Boubacar Seck, Assistant Director of the Central Veterinary Laboratory for his assistance throughout my tour and particularly for his patience in training me to use the laboratory computer to generate the graphs and some other portions of this report. I am extremely grateful to the parasitology technicians, Mr. Soungalo Traore, Mr. Alexis Paul Diarra and Mr. Saidou Doumbia, for their provision of good ideas both in the laboratory and especially on collecting trips, and to our chauffers, especially Mr. Dosse Coulibaly, for their willingness to participate in the collection process. Finally appreciation is expressed to Elevage and abattoir personnel at each of the collecting sites for their assistance in collecting (and sometimes processing) samples. Mr. Camara (Nioro du Sahel), Dr. Daou (Macina), Dr. Konipo (Bougouni), Mr. Sanogo (Sikasso), Dr. Kone (Kayes), Dr. A.
