A geriatric coming-of-age story ... Retired expat, Tony Metcalfe, is going through a three-quarter-life crisis. Viva España, his bar in a mountain village beyond Spain’s Costa Blanca, is failing. Tony started the bar for the English post-war babies who retired early on good pensions - the por favors, as the Spanish call them - flocking to the dream of wine, rest and sun around the pool. But now their retirement paradise is shadowed by Brexit: the pound has fallen, pensions are frozen and the property crash happened long ago. Tony wants to move back to enjoy the remainder of his life in his childhood home, but his tenacious wife Laney wants to stay in the happy valley and forget about England and the dark, unresolved feelings it provokes in their marriage. Sod it - he couldn’t go home even if he tried; nobody would buy an ailing bar during a recession. But Tony’s luck is about to change when his son Nick arrives for a surprise visit with his self-possessed wife, Jo, and their son. With the extra help, Tony thinks things are on the up, but Jo has brought along more baggage than just their family’s suitcases. Staying On is a compelling story of little and greater family secrets come to light and what it means to find home, wherever you are. What readers are saying: "A beguiling story about broken people who have all the feelings and none of the words. Utterly captivating." Damien Owens "Escapism for realists – peppered with humour, yet poignant and as topical as it’s revealing... a wry take on expat life, astutely observed and deftly drawn." Peter Kerr, bestselling author of the award-winning Snowball Oranges series

This book explores how recent football fiction has negotiated the decisive political developments in English football after the 1989/90 publication of the 'Taylor Report'. A direct response to the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster and growing concerns of hooliganism, the 'Taylor Report' suggested a number of measures for stricter regulation of fan crowds. In consequence, stadiums in the top divisions were turned into all-seated venues and were put under CCTV surveillance. The implementation of these measures reduced violent incidents drastically, but it also led to an unparalleled increase in ticket prices, which in turn significantly altered the demographics of the crowd. This development, which also enabled football's entry into other mainstream cultural forms, changed the game decisively. Piskurek traces patterns across prose and film to detect how these fictions have responded to the changed circumstances of post-Taylor football. Lending a cultural lens to these political changes, this book is pioneering in its analysis of football fiction as a whole, offering a fresh perspective to a range of scholars and students interested in cultural studies, sociology, leisure and politics.

Football is the cruellest game. Legendary footballer and England Captain Kev King takes no prisoners - on and off the pitch. He'll stop at nothing in his quest for fame, lifestyle and silverware. But as all who fell for Kev's 'charms' in PREMIERSHIP PSYCHO will remember, Kev's got a temper - a bad one. Now unjustly accused and losing his place in the England's 2012 squad, Kev's hurt, rejected and publicly betrayed. Short of offers, he signs up with some two-bit side in the Caucasus, pushing deeper and deeper into the country's political intrigue. But can Kev really swap nations and make it to 2012 after all? And can he keep his temper in check long enough to clear his name? A darkly hilarious tale of football, vengeance, winning and losing. GROUP OF DEATH will be loved by all those who can think of nothing except Euro 2012 - and by all those who are dreading it entirely. You can follow Kev King @Kevishly Praise for Premiership Psycho: 'The more of a c*nt Kev King is, the more I like him. How the f*ck is that possible? ... Very good writing. The Mirror 'As with all good satire, this dystopian vision inspires laughter and loathing in equal measure.' Independent on Sunday 'Magnificent... Hilarious and heinous.' Sport Magazine 'Funny, dark and a huge mickey-take on celebrity. Brilliant.' The Sun
