Prayer can have great effects if we are devoted to spending the time on our knees before our Father God. Throughout the history of the Bible, the greatest men of those ancient truths were all men who were willing to pray to affect change in their world and to draw closer to their Lord and Saviour. This book shows how all these great men approached prayer and the changes it can bring out our own lives.

Edward McKendree Bounds did not merely pray well that he might write well about prayer. He prayed because the needs of the world were upon him. He prayed, for long years, upon subjects which the easy-going Christian rarely gives a thought, and for objects which men of less thought and faith are always ready to call impossible. From his solitary prayer-vigils, year by year, there arose teaching equaled by few men in modern Christian history. He wrote transcendently about prayer, because he was himself, transcendent in its practice. As breathing is a physical reality to us so prayer was a reality for Bounds. He took the command, 'Pray without ceasing almost as literally as animate nature takes the law of the reflex nervous system, which controls our breathing.

Methodist minister and Civil War chaplain Edward McKendree Bounds (1835-1913) considered conversation with God as fundamentally vital to the Christian's life as physical breath. He devoted the last 17 years of his life to intense intercession and to penning some of the most perennially popular works about prayer. This attractive volume features the very best of his beloved writings. "God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed in death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God's heart is set on them and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; they outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world." --from E.M. Bounds on Prayer Every Christian library needs the classics--the timeless books that have spoken powerfully to generations of believers. Hendrickson Christian Classics allow readers to build an essential classics library in affordable modern editions. "Prayer And Praying Men" by E.M. Bounds focuses on the lives of godly men in the Bible. In this time-honored book, Bounds shows how we can turn to God in prayer—for deliverance—when trouble arises in our lives. Many encouraging stories and examples of prayer, drawn from the Bible, are included as encouragement. E. M. Bounds shows how prayer really does influence the actions of God, and that those who know God the best are the highest and most powerful in prayer. He also demonstrates how God hears, heeds, answers, and delivers by prayer. Humility, intensity, and boldness are all proper attitudes when praying to God, and saints today can expect deliverance when they pray in the same way as the saints of old. “Prayer and Praying Men,” another great title by Bounds, will encourage and challenge you to further improve your prayer life.

Powerful, effective prayer for your husband is easier than you think. “I have never seen a more practical book on how to pray for your husband.”—Gary Chapman, PhD, author of The Five Love Languages As a wife, no one is more called or qualified than you to pray for your husband. Yet sometimes, it’s hard to find the words. You wonder: What should I pray? How should I pray? What prayers does he need right now? In Praying for Your Husband from Head to Toe, Sharon Jaynes maps out sixteen areas of a man’s life to help you consistently and effectively cover your husband in prayer. From his mind and the thoughts he thinks, to his eyes and the images he sees, all the way down to his feet and the path he takes, Sharon teaches you how to pray for your husband in ways that are powerful, practical, and life-changing. You’ll learn how to: • Cover each area of your husband’s life with specific scriptural prayers, knowing that when you pray the Word of God, you pray the will of God. • Become a prayer warrior who is equipped and empowered for intercession that makes a difference in the physical and spiritual realms. • Stop your mind from wandering during prayer by following a pattern that helps you stay focused and fervent, with faith-filled expectancy. • Establish a habit of purposeful prayer in just a few dedicated minutes each day. Whether you’re newly married or you and your husband have grown gray together, you’ll use this prayer guide again and again to bless your marriage and your man.

Not illustrated. 1921 edition. Excerpt: ... PRAYER AND PRAYING MEN CHAPTER I PRAYING SAINTS OF THE OLD TESTAMENTS The Holy Spirit will give to the praying saint the brightness of an immortal hope, the music of a deathless song, in His baptism and communion with the heart, He will give sweeter and more enlarged visions of heaven until the taste for other things will pall, and other visions will grow dim and distant. He zuill put notes of other worlds in human hearts until all earth's music is discord and songless.--Rev. E. M. Bounds. Old Testament history-is filled with accounts of praying saints. The leaders of Israel in those early days were noted for their praying habits. Prayer is the one thing which stands out prominently in their lives. To begin with, note the incident in Joshua, ioth chapter, where the very heavenly bodies were made subject to prayer. A prolonged battle was on between the Israelites and their enemies, and when night was rapidly coming on, and it was discovered that a few more hours of daylight were needful to ensure victory for the Lord's hosts, Joshua, that sturdy man of God, stepped into the breach, with prayer. The sun was too rapidly declining in the west for God's people to reap the full fruits of a noted victory, and Joshua, seeing how much depended upon the occasion, cried out in the sight and in the hearing of Israel, "Sun, stand thou still upon Gideon, and thou moon in the Valley of Ajalon." And the sun actually stood still and the moon stopped on her course at the command of this praying man of God, till the Lord's people had avenged themselves upon the Lord's enemies. Jacob was not a strict pattern of righteousness, prior to his all-night praying. Yet he was a man of prayer and believed in the God of prayer. So we find him swift to call upon God...
