As a follow-up to his warmly received debut book, "Nashua Area Men and Women in World War II," author Ronald Dube shares another remarkable collection of war stories and accounts told to him by his fellow Nashuan war veterans from both WWII and, primarily, the Korean War. With candor and meticulous attention to detail, "Post WWII Nashua Through Korea" paints an intimate portrait of what life was like for those who served. In between these stories, Dube includes details of the local and national developments and events that affected the everyday life of Nashua residents during this period in time. A mesmerizing work for readers of all ages, "Post WWII Nashua Through Korea" serves as a touching tribute to Nashuan war veterans, while also preserving an important historical record for future generations of Nashuan citizens.

This project began twenty-five years ago when I worked as a stringer for the Nashua Telegraph. The paper hired a number of correspondents at the time to cover local news and events in the small towns around Nashua. I reported on the selectmen’s meetings and the planning board meetings in Mason and Greenville and the Mascenic School Board. The editors encouraged us to write special features about people, places, and events.

All the world may indeed be a stage, but a poet's world consists of words. Nashua Gallagher's debut collection of verse resonates with themes of coming of age in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia, and is set in a belovedly re-imagined yet elusive "home" with a cast of friends, family, poets and others. Her work traverses tender recollection, wry observation, and candid commentary on the road to love, motherhood, identity, relationships, and the many entanglements of modern living. Sometimes playful, sometimes serious, often insightful, the poems in this book showcase the contradictory yet charming aspects of a contemporary world in flux. It is an homage to life in transience, words written and spoken, as well as a glimpse into a world through its different stages.

This is the last installment in a trilogy about my hometowns involvement in our countrys mid-twentieth-century wars. I researched the pages of the Nashua Telegraph from 1060 through 1973, looking for names, leads, and stories about local men and women who participated in Americas most contentious war. The paper published news and features from Derry/Salem, east of Nashua, west to Jaffrey/Rindge, and north to New Boston. The Nashua Telegraph also covered Tyngsboro, Pepperell, and Dunstable, Massachusetts. Sadly, times for newspapers have changed, and the Telegraph has a much-reduced coverage area.

This inspiring anthology it the first to convey the noteworthy experiences and contributions of women in the American military in their own words-from the Revolutionary War to the present wars in the Middle East. Serving with the Union Army during the Civil War as a nurse, scout, spy, and soldier, Harriet Tubman tells what it was like to be the first American woman to lead a raid against an enemy, freeing some 750 slaves. Busting gender stereotypes, Inga Fredriksen Ferris's describes how it felt to be a woman marine during World War II. Heidi Squier Kraft recounts her experiences as a lieutenant commander in the navy, deployed to Iraq as a psychologist to provide mental health care in a combat zone. In excerpts from their diaries, letters, oral histories, military depositions and testimonies, as well as from published and unpublished memoirs-generations of women reveal why and how they chose to serve their country, often breaking with social norms and at great personal peril.
