The poems in this book are from my life experiences and the traumatic experiences surrounding my life. I've taken these lessons and wrote them into poetry to hopefully touch lives about society, and the injustices going on in our world today. These words are given to me and flow freely through my faith in our divine Creator and our abuse of this beautiful orb we call Earth. Hopefully, my words give attention to those that have no voice and the destruction of the human spirit by societal demands. I call out leaders of nations and religious organizations to stand up and start treating every life on this planet with dignity and respect. I hope you enjoy my writings and will give these words great reviews so others may be inclined to read them also. I'm already well on my way of adding volume 2 as these words flow freely from the heavens above through my hands and onto these pages. Thank you. If a people Have no poets And no poetry of their own For a National Anthology Then treachery and barking Will do the trick With these words, a challenge is laid down in this new volume of Albanian poetry. Albania, however, has a dynamic tradition of literature. Lightning from the Depths is the first English collection to present the full range of Albanian verse. Albanian literature has had many lives. The early Christian traditions disappeared as Islam and the Ottoman Empire took over. Muslim literature, too, withered when the nation strove to become an independent European country. The beginnings of a modern tradition were quashed by the Stalinists. All along this rocky path, poets have turned the political strife, poverty, and isolation their nation has often experienced into culture, both celebrating and questioning the society in which they live. Lightning from the Depths opens readers’ eyes to a new political and cultural world populated artists who can spin despair into poetry.

From the Foreword, by Dennis Patrick Slattery "As I read Beth Anne Boardman's insightful meditative poems in this new volume, I could not help but think of the relation between poetry and prayer. All of the poems she includes carry a prayerful tone and depth. Prayer, like poetry, is an act of imagination; the former contains or harbors a form of poiesis, a Greek word that suggests a making or forming or shaping something into a coherent form. One cannot help but sense Beth's struggles and achievements as she negotiates that narrow gap between poetry and prayer, if indeed there is a gap at all. . . . Her poems are continual surprises at life's uncertainties bumping up against life's claimed securities. In the tension between these two is the ellipses of life . . . where we are asked to fill in what we live and how we live it. Her poems are fine and lasting guides to such a meditative place of prayer."

Winner of the 2019 National Book Award “The sight lines in Sze’s 10th collection are just that―imagistic lines strung together by jump-cuts, creating a filmic collage that itself seems to be a portrait of simultaneity.” ―The New York Times From the current phenomenon of drawing calligraphy with water in public parks in China to Thomas Jefferson laying out dinosaur bones on the White House floor, from the last sighting of the axolotl to a man who stops building plutonium triggers, Sight Lines moves through space and time and brings the disparate and divergent into stunning and meaningful focus. In this new work, Arthur Sze employs a wide range of voices—from lichen on a ceiling to a man behind on his rent—and his mythic imagination continually evokes how humans are endangering the planet; yet, balancing rigor with passion, he seizes the significant and luminous and transforms these moments into riveting and enduring poetry. “These new poems are stronger yet and by confronting time head on, may best stand its tests.” ―Lit Hub “The wonders and realities of the world as seen through travel, nature walks, and daily routine bring life to the poems in Sight Lines.” ―Library Journal
