Gladys and Esther Sue long for the return of God's anointed word to be preached once again at their community church that once used to be on fire for God. When Pastor Carey went home to be with Jesus, a three-to-two vote by the board members gave power to a minister they know nothing about as they were too busy with their jobs. Not long after crime and drugs come to Elm Grove, and these two prayer warriors turn to God to take back their church and town by falling down on their knees in prayer. As the enemy comes against them, God's hand protects them as they trust in a God that cannot fail and also praying for the new pastor that he was going to send them. Meanwhile, over twelve hundred miles away, God's plan is already in action, preparing Charles, who was called to preach the Gospel but walked away when men that he had looked up to let him down. Falling into the lifestyles of the world with alcohol, his wife Hannah goes to battle, down on her knees in prayer to fight for the man she married. After paying the cost of sin and losing so much, Charles finds himself standing at life's crossroads realizing all his mistakes. The power of God, through prayer, restores a town, a family, and touches many lives along the way as a new journey begins. This story contains real-life situations that people face every day, along with humor, mystery, and many scriptures of hope.

Is it possible to be content when life is painful and disappointing? The Art of Divine Contentment considers the implications of the Apostle Paul's claim that he had learned to be content in any situation (Phil 4:11). Our discontent is sinful when we murmur against God and accuse Him of injustice or cruelty. But by frequently beholding God's sovereignty, love, and grace, we can learn to be more content in all circumstances. Thomas Watson (1620-1686) was an English Puritan preacher and author. Watson originally published The Art of Divine Contentment around 1660. The source text for this edition is from an 1829 printing by L. B. Seeley and Sons in London. This book is a complete sentence-by-sentence modern update of Watson’s original text. Updates include: New descriptive chapter and section headings. Modern English sentence structure. Modern English vocabulary. Added paragraph breaks for topic transitions. English Standard Version (ESV) scripture references. Full scripture quotations and annotations in footnotes. Active table of contents.

Born the son of a clergyman on October 18, 1662, Matthew Henry was ordained into the British Presbyterian Church where he held the pastorate in Chester from 1687 to 1712. He was widowed, married again and had 10 children, three whom died in infancy. Henry died in 1714. Henry began work on his commentary as "Notes On The New Testament" in 1704 and the monumental work was completed shortly before his death in 1714. Remembered as a caring pastor, a passionate lover of the Word of God, and a man of great personal integrity, Matthew Henry has left his mark on the hearts of countless Christians who seek a deeper understanding of the riches that Scripture contains. This edition of Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible uses the King James text and is abridged from the original six volumes while faithfully retaining all of the vibrant themes of that classic work. Everything here is in Matthew Henry's own words and nothing relevant to today's reader has been omitted.
