Pending Watershed Work Plans PDF Download

"Hearings on 20 pending watershed work plans which have been submitted pursuant to Public Law 566, the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act of 1954. These projects are formulated by the Soil Conservation Service of the Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with local sponsors. They consist of works of improvement in small watersheds for the purposes of erosion control and floodwater damage reduction, and other purposes consistent with the development of agricultural phases of conservation, development, utilization and disposal of water. Since inception of this agricultural program, it has been expanded to include such purposes as recreation, fish and wildlife, municipal and industrial water supply, and flood control in small urban areas. The subcommittee has some questions on the intent and scope of the program and methods of benefit-cost evaluation. We hope to discuss these concerns in the course of these hearings, using some 20 projects before us as illustrations"--Page 1.
