This major contribution to Pauline scholarship by a widely-respected New Testament scholar is the culmination of over forty years of teaching on Paul. Brendan Byrne demonstrates that topics often discussed in Pauline studies and Christian theology go astray when the significance of the last judgment falls from view. Offering a fresh Catholic perspective that engages with centuries of Protestant interpretation, this book recaptures the significance of the motif of the last judgment for the interpretation of Paul.

Over the last four decades, the focus of M. Douglas Meeks's work has placed him at the centre of many of the most important developments in theological reflection and education. As a political, ecclesial, and metaphorical theologian, Meeks has givenwitness to the oikonomia of the triune God, the Homemaker who creates the conditions of Home for the whole of creation, in critical conversation with contemporary economic, social, and political theory. The essays of this volume were written to honour Meeks, Cal Turner Chancellor Professor Emeritus of Theology at Vanderbilt University Divinity School, by addressing the theme of God's economy of salvation from biblical, historical, ecclesial, and theological perspectives. In an age of ecologicaldevastation and economic injustice, Meeks teaches us how to place our hope - as disciples of Jesus, as members of local congregations, as stewards of institutional life, and as global citizens - in God's power for life over death through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. These essays will serve to enliven and clarify this hope for the sake of the world God so loves.

Download The Role of the Three Persons Trinity in the Economy of Salvation Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Theology - Biblical Theology, grade: 60, , course: Historical Theology, language: English, abstract: The doctrine of salvation to me is the most crucial doctrine in the history of the church and the most important matter in the life of Christianity. Hence the understanding of the role of the Trinity is very crucial in knowing how salvation really applied to the life of a believer and the Christian faith. For I perceived that the reason why several Christians make little value of their Christian life is due to lack of clear and proper understanding of the works of the Trinity in their Salvation experiences and probably because the transaction was not properly done. These may be the same reason why most Christians are living a life of hypocrisy and void of power, because they understood stricken the role of the Trinity in the Economy of their salvation. Hence they don’t appropriate the efficacy of the power of Trinity in their salvation bargain. No wonder so many Christians resolved to other sources of power in times of crisis and difficulties. I perceived that the reason why several Christians take little value to their Christian life is the lack of proper understanding of the works of the Trinity in their salvation experiences, and probably because the transaction was not properly done. These may be the reason why most Christians are living a defeated and hypocritical life. Because they understood stricken the role of the individual Persons of the Trinity in the economy of their salvation; hence they don’t appropriate the efficacy of the power of the Trinity in their salvation bargains. No wander, they resolved to other sources of power in their times of crisis and difficulties. The fact on the importance of the doctrine of salvation was elucidated by the Article Bible.org as they said that “Soteriology, the doctrine of salvation, must be the grandest theme in the Scriptures. It embraces all of time as well as eternity past and future. It relates in one way or another to all of mankind, without exception. It even has ramifications in the sphere of the angels. It is the theme of both the Old and New Testaments. It is personal, national, and cosmic”. But in all its beauty, we don’t seem to understand and appreciate the role the individual Persons of the Godhead play in our salvation economy.

Download The One Church of Christ: Understanding Vatican II Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Vatican II represents a watershed in the history of Catholic ecclesiology. Although it stands in organic continuity with previous magisterial teaching, distortions of its teaching have proliferated since the time of the Council, leading many to conclude that the Catholic Church changed her position regarding the identity that exists between the One Church of Christ and the Catholic Church. Stephen A. Hipp’s The One Church of Christ: Understanding Vatican II refutes that conclusion and explains the Catholic understanding of how Christ’s indivisible Church relates to the Catholic Church, to non-Catholic Christian communities, and to other religious societies. Hipp thoroughly examines the controversial statement that “the Church of Christ subsists in the Catholic Church” from terminological, historical, and theological perspectives, showing that Vatican II introduces nothing doctrinally new to the Church’s self-understanding, but provides a more nuanced way of speaking about the unicity and universality that define Christ’s Church. He reveals that Vatican II thereby establishes ecumenism and interreligious dialogue on fruitful ground, while calling Catholics to a greater appreciation of the extraordinary gift of the Church’s subsistence.

Download Drama of the Divine Economy Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The theology of creation interconnected with virtually every aspect of early Christian thought, from Trinitarian doctrine to salvation to ethics. Paul M. Blowers provides an advanced introduction to the multiplex relation between Creator and creation as an object both of theological construction and religious devotion in the early church. While revisiting the polemical dimension of Christian responses to Greco-Roman philosophical cosmology and heterodox Gnostic and Marcionite traditions on the origin, constitution, and destiny of the cosmos, Blowers focuses more substantially on the positive role of patristic theological interpretation of Genesis and other biblical creation texts in eliciting Christian perspectives on the multifaceted relation between Creator and creation. Greek, Syriac, and Latin patristic commentators, Blowers argues, were ultimately motivated less by purely cosmological concerns than by the urge to depict creation as the enduring creative and redemptive strategy of the Trinity. The 'drama of the divine economy', which Blowers discerns in patristic theology and piety, unfolded how the Creator invested the 'end' of the world already in its beginning, and thereupon worked through the concrete actions of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit to realize a new creation.
