Pain is something that is inevitable in the earthly realm. Some pain, we can manage through and eventually get over it, yet some pain that we endure causes lifelong battles and even weaknesses that we fight and struggle with every day. Some struggles causes us to think that God left us or that He would not even want us because of our weakness, but what if it was the opposite? It was Paul in his second letter to Corinth that detailed his conversation with the Heavenly Father. He stated that he possessed a thorn that he asked to be taken from him on three separate occasions, but God answered back and told him that His grace is all that Paul needed, and His strength was made perfect in Paul's weakness. So Paul decided that he would rejoice in everything that he had to go through, because when he was weak, God's strength was there to complete him. What God showed Paul, He also is trying to show us. Today's generation has many different struggles and weaknesses, and they have learned grown to mask themselves as anger, depression, which leads to many different sad situations that we see in everyday life, such as murder, suicide, violence, etc. This generation has ran from the church because instead of loving and instructing, the church has turned into a judgmental, self-righteous form of a god that does not exist. Once the true nature of God is revealed and the feel of his genuine love is found, one will see that there is truly a purpose for everything encountered up to this point. The pain was necessary for the birthing of your purpose! That is what this book is all about, reaching a generation to let them know that there is truly a purpose in every suffering and trial that we must go through. There is a cycle that many people are stuck in because they have no idea how to unlock the promise that God has for them, just like Xavier didn't. He thought God had left him, so in turn, he went in the opposite direction, drowning himself deeper and deeper in sorrow. But each and every word and idea in this book is for a specific purpose: to oppose every demonic spirit that tries to hold the mind captive through the hurt and pain we experience.

Pain serves a purpose. When going through the pains of life, it can easily blindside us, which leaves an open window for the enemy to depress us, oppress us, and if it goes on too long, he can even overtake us. Not knowing that our pain serves a purpose can make us bound and stuck mentally and spiritually, and it can all affect our physical life as well. Although the enemy has a plan to kill, steal, and destroy, God also has a plan; and his plan is purpose driven not only for us but for the kingdom of God and to help somebody else who may be dealing with the same things he has brought us through. The purpose of God is the will and the plans of God that he has for us, and he works all things, including the things we face in life, according to his purposes. Having faith in him and his plans, even when the pain is overwhelming, is one of the keys to living the abundant life that he has for us. Your pain serves a purpose, even when you don't understand it. And because he is an intentional God and all-knowing, it is the reason we are Pained on Purpose. He is with us when we are going through these pains, helping us and pulling us through so that we can testify of his goodness that he may be glorified, and somebody else can be made free and whole by his Spirit. Pain doesn't have to be the end of your story, but it can be the beginning of what God intended to be a perfect end.

This volume investigates the history and nature of pain in Greek culture under the Roman Empire (50-250 CE). Traditional accounts of pain in this society have focused either on philosophical or medical theories of pain or on Christian notions of 'suffering'; fascination with the pained body has often been assumed to be a characteristic of Christian society, rather than Imperial culture in general. This book employs tools from contemporary cultural and literary theory to examine the treatment of pain in a range of central cultural discourses from the first three centuries of the Empire, including medicine, religious writing, novelistic literature, and rhetorical ekphrasis. It argues instead that pain was approached from an holistic perspective: rather than treating pain as a narrowly defined physiological perception, it was conceived as a type of embodied experience in which ideas about the body's physiology, the representation and articulation of its perceptions, as well as the emotional and cognitive impact of pain were all important facets of what it meant to be in pain. By bringing this conception to light, scholars are able to redefine our understanding of the social and emotional fabric of Imperial society and help to reposition its relationship with the emergence of Christian society in late antiquity.
