My main purpose in writing this book has been to share my experiences and triumphs with my fellow victims of rheumatoid arthritis. We don't have to be ashamed or embarrassed just because we have rheumatoid arthritis. The disease is not a crime or sin. It does, however, sentence us to life imprisonment. But there are ways to parole ourselves from this prison. Together we can combat this terrible disease with phenomenal results. I am living proof. Am I so different? Don't we all in the end have to learn patience and more patience, discipline and tenacity? My advice couldn't be simpler: "Think positive, think possibility and never give up." My RA is about as severe as it gets, but even with all my pain in the early years, I've managed to live a happy, full life. I'd even say "a normal life"-but who's normal? No one! My hope is that my experience will give you shortcuts for finding the normal life unique to you. -Anita Li Chun, author of Pain Was My Middle Name

An empowering memoir of resilience and redemption, and the rage that helped a girl escape the darkness of a harrowing childhood. Born to a violently dysfunctional home in working-class Denmark, Lisbeth Zornig Andersen and her three older brothers were bounced between foster care and state-run institutions, then back again to their chemically dependent mother and sadistic stepfather. For Lisbeth, it was a childhood without perimeters. It was blighted by poverty, sexual abuse, neglect, betrayal, and further victimization by the broken Danish social services system that forced Lisbeth to live where and how it saw fit. Coming of age with a myriad of fears and emotional disorders, Lisbeth had three things that would become driving forces in her life: she was extraordinarily bright, extremely willful, and exceptionally angry. From hell to liberation, this is Lisbeth's emotional and galvanizing memoir told in two voices: that of a young girl who was unwanted, challenged, and defiant, and that of a woman who channeled her rage into a positive force as a passionate advocate for children's rights. Whatever darkness defines the past, it can be used to change the future. Lisbeth's heart-wrenching and ultimately uplifting journey is proof.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 I have visited my grandparents, who live nearby in a red wooden house. Grandpa mostly just lies in bed since he broke his leg, although he gets up sometimes to take his three-wheel moped to the pub. I have never been in the attic, but I’m afraid of it. #2 I like to lie down on the floor with Døtter and bury my nose in her stomach while I listen to the adults talking. The wood floor in the living room is shiny and greasy. From the floor, I can look up at the coffee table, which is covered with ashtrays and coffee cups. #3 I was three years old when I was sent to an orphanage called Kastanjegården. The place looked like a nice old farm, and I was excited to live there with my brothers. #4 After a few hours of being allowed to walk around on their own, it’s dinner time. I enjoy the food and am full and happy by the time the TV is turned on. I fall asleep at the dining table with my head on my arms.

American history is full of examples of discrimination in all forms, but never before has the wreckage from America’s infatuation with eugenics and its state-sanctioned policy of hate toward the mentally ill been put in such personal terms. In this extraordinary debut book, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist John Erickson answers the questions that have long haunted an immigrant family: Why was a mother in her early twenties imprisoned and then sterilized? What caused her three children to be taken from her and placed in an orphanage that later preyed on children? What led her oldest son to commit an unspeakable act of violence? And, finally, whatever happened to her youngest son who disappeared from her life and was never seen by the family again? This is a tragic story, yet strangely an uplifting one. Because just as officials believed immorality and mental illness were as genetically linked as eye and hair color, various family members would prove them wrong. In a story that will make you seethe with anger and well with tears, When Mortals Play God shows how valuable life is, and how grit and determination can sometimes relegate evil and injustice to a back seat.

Readers will readily find their faith encouraged to acquire properties for their own homes or investments, while gaining the practical wisdom necessary to see it actually happen. (More information about this title is also available at www.rodneyjohnson.com.) ENDORSEMENTS: Pat Boone: Commit your works unto the Lord, and He will establish your thoughts. Proverbs 16: 3. Another translation says-and He will guarantee your success. I like that even better! The point is this: God created everything there is and wants man to be successful in his stewardship of creation. Rodney Johnson has tapped into that wonderful truth, and shares it with us in very practical ways, from his own experience. What could be better? Dean Jones: My longtime friend, Rodney Johnson, is not only an expert in Southern California real estate, but a man who strives to serve God's purpose in every deal he closes. Does it matter to God where you live? This book will be a vivid reminder that the God who birthed life on planet Earth is still interested in making homes for His people on it. Gavin MaCleod: Rodney Johnson's book, Possessing Your Promised Land: Biblical Principles for Real Estate Acquisition is a read that will inspire, educate, andguide you through any real estate transaction. Our Lord said, I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly. Rodney explains God's word and how your mindset translates into acquiring real estate properties-among other things-according to God's plan. It's a MUST READ-and it's all biblical! Paul McGuire: Rodney Johnson's Possessing Your Promised Land shows the reader firsthand how to develop a mindset geared toward acquiring real estate. His exciting examples culled from almost twenty years of helping people possess their own promised lands make this an enjoyable read. If God has been nudging you to step out into the unknown like He called Abraham to do then, by all means, read this book. Michael Reagan: From the political to the practical, Rodney Johnson covers it in Possessing Your Promised Land. Whether it is using his garage as a polling site in national elections or taking the appropriate tax deduction, he has something to say that should be of benefit to all homeowners and those who want to be homeowners. This book is not about mansions in the sweet by and by. Instead, Rodney uses biblical examples and characters to show us what we need to do in the here and now. I encourage you to read Possessing Your Promised Land and then do what the title suggests. Colin Stewart: Rodney Johnson has performed a unique service for both Christians and non-Christians alike in this immensely readable and inspiring book. His fresh and insightful application of Biblical truth to the subject of real estate ownership places the concept of possessing the land in a context that is compelling and relevant to everyday life in the 21st century. Plus his stories are very funny andenjoyable to read! Lisa Whelchel: Possessing Your Promised Land is full of hope, faith and encouragement to believe your real estate dreams really can come true. Rodney Johnson provides all that plus the practical direction to make it happen. Above all, this unique and timely book reminds us that if we delight in God then He gives us the desires of our hearts, and it is God's heart-desire to give us a home-both earthly and heavenly!

Join Danny and his friends as they have many misadventures in a southwestern Pennsylvania steel town during the late 1950s and early 60s. The story has many memorable and odd characters. It was a much simpler time; there were no cell phones, computers, or video games. People still gathered around the radio to listen to 'Superman' and 'Fiber Magee and Molly'. If they were lucky enough to have a TV, it was black and white and all kitchen appliances were white. There was no Internet. The closest thing to Amazon was the Sears Catalog, where you could order anything from a toy train to a Craftsman House.Sputnik, Echo, and who knows what were circling the earth. The local dump provided everything kids needed to keep them occupied. There were areas in town that still had outhouses. They were poor but didn't know it. Kids could roam the neighborhood without any worries. Their parents would tell them "Come home when the streetlights come on."If you are looking for a book like 'War and Peace' or 'Moby Dick', then look somewhere else. This book is more like Jean Shepherd's 'A Christmas Story'; if it were a movie it would be rated 'G' for general audiences. Whether you are 12 or 112, I am sure you are going to enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
