By devoting the whole second year to the history of the tremendous changes which have overtaken the world since the middle of the eighteenth century, the student will be in a position to grasp the causes and results of the World War and the perplexing conditions in the midst of which we live. It will be observed that a half of the present volume - a quarter of the whole work - is assigned to the period since 1870; namely, "our own times."
