An old and weary Omana flits in and out of multiple worlds as she grapples with a permanent state of confusion and memory loss. Sam begins her career with talent, and an unhealthy doze of anxiety. Tapsee recollects every moment of humiliation and anger, as she faces yet another situation where her boundaries are challenged. Gita is ready to divorce after a lifetime of a marriage. Young Valli tries to battle her English language deficiency on her way to big things. And Prabha struggles to strike a balance between her love for good food, and her love of God. As the world has changed over the last decade, women have come to face new challenges in addition to the old ones. This collection of fifteen stories acknowledges the problems and recognises the struggles - big and small. We have such a long way to go before our girls see a semblance of fairness in this world.

Ho'omana examines what happened to Native Hawaiian beliefs from the time the priests ended traditional temple worship in 1819 to the present day controversies over sacred sites and objects. As a former Cultural Affairs Officer for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Malcolm Naea Chun was actively involved in the early initiatives of cultural and historic preservation and knows well of the conflicts and struggles that involve and invoke Hawaiian beliefs. He has written and published several articles on the historical dialogue between traditional religion and Christianity. In Ho'omana, Chun uses primary Native Hawaiian sources to compare pre-contact practices with contemporary beliefs and practices, looking for what has been retained, what has changed, and which current practices should be considered questionable as Native Hawaiian. This book is one of eleven short volumes of the Ka Wana series, which is part of the Pihana Na Mamo Native Hawaiian Education Program.

About the Book: Rudra, an enterprising, well-connected, successful businessman with a name and stature, steps in love with an established lawyer who is not able to acknowledge Rudra's love despite being able to fathom the depth of his emotions. Speaking about Omana, he enters into a zone of emotions and tells how a woman, with her mere existence, can change the lives of people around. The story revolves around Omana who is intelligent, virtuous, witty, beautiful and ambitious. The book, in every chapter, has stories of women who took life head-on, challenged their limits and evolved rather than getting succumbed to self-pity and blame game when they were tested by time. The story progresses as a conversation between Rudra and the most precious woman of his life, Omana, who presents her perspectives about life, people, situations and what can an individual learn. Her keen observation, empathy, compassion and care do not come in the way of her integrity and assertiveness. They both discuss about the value and meaning of life vis-à-vis the pressures and hypocrisy that every individual faces while living in this society. Rudra, deeply in love with Omana, kept finding opportunities to be with her. "At a time when each Society had its own medium of propogation of its researches ... in the form of Transactions, Proceedings, Journals, etc., a need was strongly felt for bringing out a journal devoted exclusively to the study and advancement of Indian culture in all its aspects. [This] encouraged Jas Burgess to launch the 'Indian antiquary' in 1872. The scope ... was in his own words 'as wide as possible' incorporating manners and customs, arts, mythology, feasts, festivals and rites, antiquities and the history of India ... Another laudable aim was to present the readers abstracts of the most recent researches of scholars in India and the West ... 'Indian antiquary' also dealt with local legends, folklore, proverbs, etc. In short 'Indian antiquary' was ...entirely devoted to the study of MAN - the Indian - in all spheres ... " -- introduction to facsimile volumes, published 1985.
