No fishing job is a welcome operation, but this new edition of a classic reference helps you do the job efficiently and economically. This practical guide is packed with illustrations and descriptions of fishing equipment and tools to help you solve just about any fishing problem. Foremen, engineers, and superintendents who write procedures, make drilling decisions, and supervise operations will find this handy book invaluable, and trainees will find it an excellent learning manual. Oilwell Fishing Operations tells how to free stuck pipe, part the pipe string, and repair casing. It describes the various types of catching tools, jars, mills, junk, baskets, and hydrostatic and rotating bailers, along with washover operations, wireline fishing, fishing in cavities, and fishing in high angle deviated and horizontal wells. The author's tips and warnings are sure to save you time and money in avoided misruns, downtime, and lost equipment. * Currently, there is no other book on the market focused only on oilwell fishing operations. * Covers all of the best practices for oilwell fishing operations and all of the latest equipment. * The first book in the "Gulf Drilling Guides" series, the first, last, and only stop for the drilling engineer with a problem to solve.

Unpredictable, unwanted, and costly, oil and gas well fishing is not a typical practice for drilling, workover and completion projects, but roughly one in every five wells experience this intervention. To stay on top, The Guide to Oilwell Fishing Operations, Second Edition will keep fishing tool product managers, drilling managers and all other well intervention specialists keyed in to all the latest tools, techniques and rules of thumb critical to conventional and complex wellbore projects, such as extended reach horizontal wells, thru-tubing, and coiled tubing operations. Strengthened with updated material and a new chapter on wellbore cleaning, The Guide to Oilwell Fishing Operations, Second Edition ensures that the life of the well will be saved no matter the unforeseen circumstances. Crucial aspects include: Enhancements with updated equipment, technology, and a new chapter on wellbore cleaning methods Additional input from worldwide service companies, providing a more comprehensive balance Remains the only all-inclusive guide exclusively devoted to fishing tools, techniques, and rules of thumb Remodeled with latest jars on the market, catch tools, and retrieving stuck packers with cutting technology Improved with information on methods such as sidetracking and plug-and-abandon operations Modernized with approaches and tactics on more advanced well projects such as high-angle deviated and horizontal wells and expandable casing technology to repair casing failure and leaks

This book reports the results of exhaustive research work on modeling and control of vertical oil well drilling systems. It is focused on the analysis of the system-dynamic response and the elimination of the most damaging drill string vibration modes affecting overall perforation performance: stick-slip (torsional vibration) and bit-bounce (axial vibration). The text is organized in three parts. The first part, Modeling, presents lumped- and distributed-parameter models that allow the dynamic behavior of the drill string to be characterized; a comprehensive mathematical model taking into account mechanical and electric components of the overall drilling system is also provided. The distributed nature of the system is accommodated by considering a system of wave equations subject to nonlinear boundary conditions; this model is transformed into a pair of neutral-type time-delay equations which can overcome the complexity involved in the analysis and simulation of the partial differential equation model. The second part, Analysis, is devoted to the study of the response of the system described by the time-delay model; important properties useful for analyzing system stability are investigated and frequency- and time-domain techniques are reviewed. Part III, Control, concerns the design of stabilizing control laws aimed at eliminating undesirable drilling vibrations; diverse control techniques based on infinite--dimensional system representations are designed and evaluated. The control proposals are shown to be effective in suppressing stick-slip and bit-bounce so that a considerable improvement of the overall drilling performance can be achieved. This self-contained book provides operational guidelines to avoid drilling vibrations. Furthermore, since the modeling and control techniques presented here can be generalized to treat diverse engineering problems, it constitutes a useful resource to researchers working on control and its engineering application in oil well drilling.

This manual replaces A Primer of Oilwell Service and Workover and has been totally updated, expanded, and renamed because it has been changed so much. It remains, however, a basic reader of the well servicing industry, and tells the story in a simple, easy-to-understand manner. Profusely illustrated, it covers such items as reservoir drive mechanisms, completion methods, artificial lift, well servicing equipment, fishing, and workover techniques. Anyone who needs a fundamental overview of well servicing, workover, and completion will find this book helpful. An extensive glossary is included.
