The twins are now in their eighties. They were separated from both parents at ten months of age and were nurtured by their mother three thousand miles away in her hospital bed. Both have done the same to many people as a nurse and a teacher. We hope this book encourages readers to nurture from afar, caused by illness, military, prison, divorce, or any other of many causes of separation.

After fulfilling every objective of a top secret mission to Jupiters Ganymede and now only days from home, four NASA astronauts learn from their computer systems analyst in Houston through an unauthorized channel that a bomb may be on a rendezvous course with their ship, the Copernicus. Mission Specialist Jana Novacek, the youngest astronaut ever, who has been chosen for mysterious reasons, suggests breaking security, announcing their existence to everyone over the net, and asking for help. Someone might be willing to help who unknowingly is involved in the plot against them. Cocommander Fawzshen, Prince of Rhatania, further recommends revealing their amazing discovery. Commander Jackson Medwin thinks that Janas journal is ideal for that purpose. Jana is distressed and feels her personal journal is not suitable. Commander Medwin will do anything to save his crew, this mission, and their discovery, but he decides neither to take evasive actions nor break security until they have proof that something is on a collision course with their ship. He considers a deactivated meteoroid detection program uploaded to them from Houston as insufficient proof.

This handbook provides a comprehensive view of the field of the sociology of gender. It presents the most important theories about gender and methods used to study gender, as well as extensive coverage of the latest research on gender in the most important areas of social life, including gendered bodies, sexuality, carework, paid labor, social movements, incarceration, migration, gendered violence, and others. Building from previous publications this handbook includes a vast array of chapters from leading researchers in the sociological study of gender. It synthesizes the diverse field of gender scholarship into a cohesive theoretical framework, gender structure theory, in order to position the specific contributions of each author/chapter as part of a complex and multidimensional gender structure. Through this organization of the handbook, readers do not only gain tremendous insight from each chapter, but they also attain a broader understanding of the way multiple gendered processes are interrelated and mutually constitutive. While the specific focus of the handbook is on gender, the chapters included in the volume also give significant attention to the interrelation of race, class, and other systems of stratification as they intersect and implicate gendered processes.

This book explores the migration processes and experiences of female labour migrants from Indonesia to Malaysia’s manufacturing sector. Their stories depict labour migration as a process shaped by the intersection of external, structural forces and individual desires and motivations. Labour migration was valued and evaluated as an “investment”, one that was calculated not only in terms of financial security but also in relation to personal rewards and experiences unavailable to them at home. These labour migrants negotiated a number of externally imposed demands and conditions, ranging from migration regulations, the challenges of settlement in a new city, factory floor relations, and the negative stereotypes attached to female Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia. Such constraints did not simply result in their sense of victimisation, as the interviews revealed the women’s capacity to resist, negotiate and comply with such factors. The book distinguishes between two groups of migrants: inexperienced, first-time migrants and experienced repeat migrants.

The Oxford Handbook of Feminist Theory provides a rich overview of the analytical frameworks and theoretical concepts that feminist theorists have developed to analyze the known world. Featuring leading feminist theorists from diverse regions of the globe, this collection delves into forty-nine subject areas, demonstrating the complexity of feminist challenges to established knowledge, while also engaging areas of contestation within feminist theory. Demonstrating the interdisciplinary nature of feminist theory, the chapters offer innovative analyses of topics central to social and political science, cultural studies and humanities, discourses associated with medicine and science, and issues in contemporary critical theory that have been transformed through feminist theorization. The handbook identifies limitations of key epistemic assumptions that inform traditional scholarship and shows how theorizing from women's and men's lives has profound effects on the conceptualization of central categories, whether the field of analysis is aesthetics, biology, cultural studies, development, economics, film studies, health, history, literature, politics, religion, science studies, sexualities, violence, or war.
