I saw Mr. Waterbury the first thing and told him that from what I saw in the newspapers this morning evidently there was more trouble than I had anticipated, and that, of course, no one could tell whether the clearances would go through, and I gave him notice that the check might be returned for that reason. CROSS-EXAMINATION by Mr. Butler: I made no objection on the score that the check had come by hand instead of by mail. I was not there to object. It was simply that Mr. Waterbury had informed me that the check was coming by mail, and undoubtedly was already in the mail and it was too late to reconsider it.
