Pyridazine and pyrazole ring systems are known to possess potent biological and pharmacological properties. On the other hand some pyridazines derivatives are used as key starting material for the synthesis of commercial dyes. Acetylacetone, ethyl acetoacetate and malononitrile were coupled with diazotized arylamines to give arylazoacetylacetones, ethyl arylazoacetoacetates and arylazomalononitriles; these when refluxed with 5,6-diphenyl-2,3-dihydro-3-oxopyridazine-4-carbohydrazide, 3-amino-4,5-diphenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-c]pyridazine and 3-hydrazino-4,5-diphenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-c]pyridazine yielded the corresponding 4-[(3-arylazo-3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)carbonyl]-5,6-diphenylpyridazin-3(2H)-one, 7-arylazo-6-methyl-3,4-diphenylpyrimido[1,2:1,5]pyrazole[3,4-c]pyridazin-8(5H)-one and 2-(4,5-diphenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-c]pyridazin-3-yl)-4-arylazo-1,2-dihydro-5-methyl-3H-pyrazol-3-one dyes respectively. The dyes were applied to polyester and polyamide fabrics, and their spectral and fastness properties measured.

Textile Dyes and Pigments The book covers the best possible innovation and advancement in dyes and pigments for application in textile materials. Green chemistry can be applied across the life cycle of a chemical-intensive product, including its design, manufacture, use, and ultimate disposal. Innovations to green approaches are required either by developing a whole new set of eco-friendly dyes and pigments or by developing and designing unique dyeing methods. Textile Dyes and Pigments: A Green Chemistry Approach is a response to the many industries currently using conventional textile dyeing and pigmentation methods that are looking for sustainable green chemical options. It describes the various organic and inorganic color pigments and recent developments in vat, reactive, disperse, acid, and azo dyes and their importance in the field of green chemistry. It also covers the various challenges, opportunities, approaches, techniques, marketing, and alternative procedures/sustainable routes involved in developing textile dyes and pigments with green practices. Moreover, the book addresses the structure, process, and the nitty-gritty of modern dyes and pigments in the textile and garment sectors. Audience The book will be of prime interest to researchers and industry manufacturers and engineers in dyes, pigments, textile processing technology, fiber technology, and textile chemistry. It will also be an invaluable reference guide to new scholars and industry personnel who wish to learn about green dyes and pigments and their relevant application processes.

The main target of this book was the synthesis of azo disperse dyes derived from 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-ones with better dyeing properties, together with a systematic investigation to determine their dominant tautomer. The connection between dyeing and fastness properties on the one hand and chemical constitution on the other is in general indefinite. Some factors affecting the current application of these dye types are examined and future developments are considered.

A range of monoazo and disazo dyes based on 4-aminoazobenzene have been prepared. Differences in colour, dyeing and fastness properties between monoazo and disazo dyes have been reported. Their structure-property relationships with respect to the electronic spectra of the dyes, and to their coloration and fastness properties on polyester fibres have been investigated. 2-Amino-4,5-(4,6-; 4,7-; and 5,7-)dichlorobenzothiazoles have been prepared by the cyclisation of the corresponding dichlorophenyl- thiourea with concentrated sulphuric acid and ammonium bromide. The phenylthioureas were obtained from benzoylisothiocyanate and the appropriate amines, and subsequent hydrolysis of the resulting benzothioureas with aqueous sodium hydroxide or sulphuric acid. Coloration and lightfastness evaluations of the dichlorobenzo- thiazolylazo dyes on polyester fibres indicate that they can be viable alternative to anthraquinone based dyes of similar hue. Structure-property relationships with respect to the electronic spectra of the dyes have been investigated.

In recent times, polymer nanocomposites have attracted a great deal of scientific interest due to their unique advantages over conventional plastic materials, such as superior strength, modulus, thermal stability, thermal and electrical conductivity, and gas barrier. They are finding real and fast-growing applications in wide-ranging fields such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, packaging, and sports. This book focuses on the development of polymer nanocomposites as an advanced material for textile applications, such as fibers, coatings, and nanofibers. It compiles and details cutting-edge research in the science and nanotechnology of textiles with special reference to polymer nanocomposites in the form of invited chapters from scientists and subject experts from various institutes from all over the world. They include authors who are actively involved in the research and development of polymer nanocomposites with a wide range of functions—including antimicrobial, flame-retardant, gas barrier, shape memory, sensor, and energy-scavenging—as well as medical applications, such as tissue engineering and wound dressings, to create a new range of smart and intelligent textiles. Edited by Mangala Joshi, a prominent nanotechnology researcher at the premier Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India, this book will appeal to anyone involved in nanotechnology, nanocomposites, advanced materials, polymers, fibers and textiles, and technical textiles.

Although the research actIvItIes of dyestuff chemists worldwide have been influenced to a great extent, in recent years, by the need to respond to a variety of environmental issues associated with the manufacture and application of synthetic dyes and pigments, a significant level of targeted research continues to be devoted to new chemistry aimed at enhancing the technical properties of dyes in commerce. This book is a presentation of various aspects of basic research conducted during the past decade but not reported in the recent review literature. The coverage herein is unique in that it emphasizes systematic approaches commonly utilized in the design and synthesis of dyes and pigments and the required intermediates. While it is well known that certain transition metals are important in the synthesis of technically viable metallized dyes for polyamide and protein fibers, these metals are demonstrated in Chapter 1 also to be effective agents in the regiospecific placement of substituents into azo compounds. The scope and limitations of this chemistry are presented. In other synthetic work, a description of the different processes employed to produce the major families of reactive dyes is presented. In Chapter 4, special attention is given to reactive dyes containing more than one reactive group, and to the more recent developments in the field. The two chapters which follow provide a review of the recent literature pertaining to novel chromophores and dyes for the D2T2 process, respectively.
