In a competitive world, the need for high-achievement runs the roost in planning a typical school day. In order to gain more instructional time, save money due to budget cuts, and address safety concerns, schools have answered back by excluding recess. The result to such dramatic changes has painted the picture of children sitting more than moving and not by choice. Despite the literature on how it benefits cognitive development, behavior, and overall health, recess has become a thing of the past and any form of a break has become creative to integrate physical activity breaks into the classroom and aligning it curriculum, as a means of double dipping. Providing these teachers with ideas of such active breaks, instructional tips of how to administer and manage them, and presenting an awareness of the literature that supports physical activity begins to pave the way for putting a stop to this sedentary epidemic.
