Boca Raton. South Florida's wealthy enclave of sand, surf, martinis, and murder . . . From high society "Boca Babe" to Harley-riding private eye, Harriet Horowitz has established her rep as a kick-ass P.I. with an insider's connection to both the high life and the low life of Florida's Palm Beach coast. Like "Junior" Castellano, a big-time land developer who hires Harriet to find the silver-haired gigolo who broke Mama Castellano's heart, Harriet is practical when it comes to solving problems. Simple enough, until the Boca police find Junior bulldozed at one of his construction sites. Was Junior killed by his mother's con man? Or by a bitter ex-wife or spurned ex-girlfriend? Maybe by his estranged sons? And what about the bartender at Hog Heaven, who was about to lose her home in a trailer park because of Junior's latest land development deal? Harriet will do whatever it takes to protect others. Even if Junior Castellano's enemy list is longer than the reservations at a Boca cocktail bar, and the scheme he was hatching was big enough to destroy the whole city. A hurricane is heading toward Boca. It should be named Harriet.

Patients at a posh Boca Raton rehab center are ending up stiffer than a Boca babe's smile. Tough PI Harriet Horowitz, once a bedazzled babe herself, signs in at The Oasis at the request of a frightened friend. As a pattern emerges in the murders, it's clear the killer is targeting patients with an unusual addiction. How did they end up with the same drug problem at the same time and in the same rehab together? Harriet's sleuthing leads her down a path of secrets and danger, and what she learns could lead her undercover assignment to a dead end. Miriam Auerbach is the author of a satirical mystery series set in Boca Raton, Florida and featuring Harley-riding, wisecracking female private eye Harriet Horowitz. Her debut novel, Dirty Harriet, won the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award for Best First Series Romance. Miriam can only assume that this is because the heroine kills her husband on page one. In a parallel universe, Miriam is known as Miriam Potocky, professor of social work at Florida International University in Miami. She lives in South Florida with her husband and their multicultural canines, a Welsh Corgi and a Brussels Griffon. Visit Miriam at Miriamauerbach.com.

As the volume of this title suggests, these poems present memories of persons and places and events, many from Mr. Carlson's childhood. The perspective, of course, is more current. There is humor, some whimsy and love, some regret and shame and, occasionally, some anger remembered. But it still is plain that description is the name of the game. If you like Norman Rockwell's paintings, you will like these poems. You are likely to remember some people you never met.

South Florida in the 1970s was one of the nation's most dangerous locations. Behind the image of sun and surf, young women were the victims of a brutal killer. In the mid-1970s, over a dozen young women were murdered and found in canals. These cases became known as the Flat Tire Murders and the Canal Murders. Only one case was ever solved. More than four decades have passed since these crimes, and no arrests were ever made. This is the first book to explore these murders in depth, as well as a bizarre series of murders occurring in the years earlier, known as the Gold Sock Stranglings. Interviews with the detectives that originally worked to solve these cases provide an intimate view of the attempt to capture the killer that terrorized South Florida. In addition to the cases themselves, the book explores several suspects, including the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy. Detailed maps of South Florida illustrate the complex canal system that became the victims' graveyard.

The true crime story of a love triangle, drug deals, and the 1984 cold case murder of a gay, South Florida teenager. Jeffrey Heagerty was like most young gay nineteen-year-olds in South Florida in the 1980s, commonly finding himself and his friends at the popular Kevin's Cabaret in West Palm Beach on Saturday nights. On one of those Saturday nights in 1984, Jeff vanished from the club, leaving his friends behind even though he was their ride home. His body was found dumped in a canal the next morning and his car was missing, only to be found a month later, abandoned on the other side of town. Rumors of a love triangle, drug dealings and sexual encounters snarled police efforts at solving the case. The investigation stagnated and the case grew cold until the solution came from two unexpected sources: overlooked details in police photographs of Jeff's car and a mysterious letter from an inmate in the Palm Beach County Jail.

Isiah Daniels, an intelligent, articulate, athletic black man, from the projects, was recruited to play basketball at the University of Miami by their largest booster, Donovan Taylor, a white entrepreneur who eventually became the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the State of Florida. Isiah, after obtaining his MBA, was hired by Donovan to eventually run his publically held company. Isiah, with Donovan’s bigoted consent, also married Donovan’s eldest daughter, Sophie Taylor, an attorney at one of the largest and most prestigious law firms in Miami. Both of those events were fulfilled for Taylor’s political ambition to become the Governor of the State. Isiah, over Donovan’s objections, began to hire many blacks to work for Donovan’s company. Some of whom were eventually promoted over many better qualified white employees who had more seniority. Isiah’s wife believed that she became aware of a scheme, by employees and customers, to embezzle funds from her father’s Company. She believes that her husband, Isiah, may be one of the perpetrators. Before Sophie had the opportunity to communicate the scheme to the authorities, she was murdered by a hired black old friend of Isiah. That individual, without authorization, contracted out Sophie’s murder to a low life white criminal who bungled the murder dreadfully. That event caused the original black man hired to kill Sophie, to be murdered. This book takes the reader into the world of a racist reprisal by the Taylor family against their black son-in-law and the other persons involved in a multi-country scheme to embezzle funds from the billion dollar Company. The book sets forth the mystery of who committed both murders as well as who were involved in the complicated scheme of embezzlement. The greed of the Donovan’s family and the Daniels’ family and their friends, intensifies the mystery as to whom may have committed the murders and embezzled hundreds of millions of dollars.
