No one could ever accuse Jane Jeffry or her equally green-thumbless best friend Shelly Nowack of being modern reicarnations of Luther Burbank. Their ineptitude in all things vegatative has inspired them to sign up for a botany class at the local community center, even though the gods of gardening seem to be warning Jane to steer clear. Jane trips on a curb and badly bangs up her foot, but his gamely hobbles to class on crutches and in a cast, only to learn that the glamorous and celebrated microbiologist teacher, Julie Jackson, has been beaten into a coma by a person or persons unknown. But the class must go on, even though the substitute teacher, Dr. Stewart Eastman, is the arrogant creator of his patented plant species and more interested in his personal ambition to achieve botanical fame and fortune than imparting knowledge or a love of gardening. He's propaganding only his ego and his latest floral coup. When a murder occurs, there's and abundant crop of suspects in the class, Is the perp who plants a body in Dr. Eastman's compost pile the conspiracy nut Ursula Appledorn, who's' convinced that they are being stalked by a cabal involving the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Queen Elizabeth, and the French Dauphin? Or maybe the obsessively tidy computer nerd Charles Jones? Or the milquetoast widoer Arnold Waring? Perhaps it's the terrifying knowledgeable Miss Martha Winstead with her strong opinions on gardening? Jane's beau, police detective Mel VanDyne, who admits to a secret longing to drive dieselpowered earth-moving equipment, is on the case, but hasn't seen the gardens the classmates have created -- wherein flourishes the floral clue to the grimy crime. Jane's afraid he'll pluck out the wrong suspect. And Jane, her nuisance injury ignored, is willing to get her gardening gloves, and Shelly's as well, dirty to uneath the gardener who's responsible for one bashing and one buried.

In this cozy mystery, a Massachusetts organic farmer must pick a peck of suspects when her own mother is accused of murder. May has been anything but merry for Cam so far. Her parents have arrived unexpectedly, and her crops are in danger. But all of that’s nothing compared to the grim murder of her neighbor, Nicole Kingsbury, the once proud owner of the town’s new hydroponic greenhouse—just after Cam’s mother publicly protested Nicole’s use of chemicals to feed her crops. Showers may be scarce this spring, but suspects keep sprouting up. Lucky for Cam, her father turns out to have a knack for sleuthing—not to mention dealing with chickens. He and Cam will have to clear Mrs. Flaherty’s name quick before the killer strikes again… Praise for the Local Foods Mysteries “Maxwell’s feisty heroine and the interesting background detail on the realities of organic farming blend to deliver a clever, twisting mystery.”—Booklist “A most enjoyable look at organic farming.”—Kirkus Reviews

Hello my name is Scott R. Taylor. For many years I have wanted a cook book that not only gives me recipes but shows and tells me the things I need to know to make food items I could be proud to serve. So I decided to make my own. One of the things I love in life is to eat good food. When I’m growing up, mom and dad’s along with grandmas cooking was always the world’s best and in my mind nobody could top them. I was born in the early 1950’s in a middle class family on the south side of Chicago. Father was from Tennessee and Mother from Ohio. So that gave me my fi rst look at fusion cooking as I knew it. By the time I hit my early teens, I learned I could not eat out every meal, so I desired to learn to cook. My passion for food grew into a 45 year career. By trial and error, cooking with other chefs, learning from friends and trying many types of cooking jobs, I have learned something new. As many of us do many things in our life, my time in the Navy, working in diners, fi ne food, major hotels, off shore oil rigs and even retirement homes have taught me every aspect of food. I could not afford to go to culinary school so I learned by doing. Read a cook book, taste the spices, ask friends, but if you like to cook and eat - GET UP AND DO IT. Living in Las Vegas to me is the best. World class food and chefs, food from around the world. This is good life for me. I hope you enjoy this book and that it answers what or want to know about cooking. Please enjoy cooking, eating and life the way that I have.
