One Act Plays for Kids is the creative result of my work with Bottle Tree Productions acting students. The kids in these classes are from 6-12 In our ten week acting sessions, we get together for the first two or three classes and do theatre games, improv stories and basic acting techniques. Usually the students come up with story ideas, characters and they work out an initial improvised story which I then turn into a script. King Hector the Horizontal is the story of a brave princess who climbs a mountain to slay a dragon and save the kingdom guppy getaway is an underwater fantasy about life under the sea for a school of guppies who get lost in the ocean Night of the Gnomes is the story of Four garden gnomes rise up in rebellion against their human masters. Toys in the Closet speaks to the imagination in all children-The idea that their toys are alive Our Acting Classes are a safe place for students to share their imagination and creativity. Theatre is a place where kids can bond with other like-minded kids. Their skills are honed in front of a jury of their peers. They quickly learn what works and what doesn't. Their ideas form the basis of these scripts. As a result these plays do not speak down to kids, but speaks for them, using their own words, their own thoughts and their own imaginations.

The one-act play stands apart as a distinct art form with some well known writers providing specialist material, among them Bernard Shaw, Tom Stoppard, Harold Pinter, Caryl Churchill. Alan Ayckbourn, Edward Albee and Tennesee Williams. There are also lesser-known writers with plenty of material to offer, yet sourcing one-act plays to perform is notoriously hard. This companion is the first book to survey the work of over 250 playwrights in an illuminating A-Z guide. Multiple styles, nationalities and periods are covered, offering a treasure trove of compelling moments of theatre waiting to be discovered. Guidance on performing and staging one-act plays is also covered as well as essential contact information and where to apply for performance rights. A chapter introducing the history of the one-act play rounds off the title as a definitive guide.

Welcome to MORE Mosaics - Youth One Act Plays! Like any good mosaic, smaller components, when thoughtfully put together, create a beautiful new piece of art. Following the success of Mosaics, my first collection of one acts youth plays, More Mosaics offers ten additional opportunities for directors to create their own piece of art. Whether performed one at a time or as a collection, these ten plays will delight young actors and their audiences with their clever dialogue, 3rd-8th grade age-appropriateness, and life lessons. With diverse casting options, simple sets, and easy costumes, creative teams will love these nuggets of theatre. The end result will introduce young actors to the art of theatre and the thrill of performance.

The Lower East Side of New York City, now famous for its gentrification, was once a very different place. It was, of course, very well-known for the role it played housing the immigrants from Eastern Europe. But as 1900 was turning into the twenty-first century, the Lower East Side was alive with singers, musicians, actors, writers, and directors. They would form companies and rent fifty-seat storefronts and put on their plays and musicals . It was in this time that the one-act plays in this book were created and performed. Also in this time, the now famous and much produced play Mishkins Paradise was born.
