Pluripotential theory is a recently developed non-linear complex counterpart of classical potential theory. Its main area of application is multidimensional complex analysis. The central part of the pluripotential theory is occupied by maximal plurisubharmonic functions and the generalized complex Monge-Ampere operator. The interplay between these two concepts provides the focal point of this monograph, which contains an up-to-date account of the developments from the large volume of recent work in this area. A substantial proportion of the work is devoted to classical properties of subharmonic and plurisubharmonic functions, which makes the pluripotential theory available for the first time to a wide audience of analysts.

Cell culture techniques allow a variety of molecular and cell biological questions to be addressed, offering physiological conditions whilst avoiding the use of laboratory animals. In addition to basic techniques, a wide range of specialised practical protocols covering the following areas are included: cell proliferation and death, in-vitro models for cell differentiation, in-vitro models for toxicology and pharmacology, industrial application of animal cell culture, genetic manipulation and analysis of human and animal cells in culture.

Tissue Culture: Methods and Applications presents an overview of the procedures for working with cells in culture and for using them in a wide variety of scientific disciplines. The book discusses primary tissue dissociation; the preparation of primary cultures; cell harvesting; and replicate culture methods. The text also describes protocols on single cell isolations and cloning; perfusion and mass culture techniques; cell propagation on miscellaneous culture supports; and the evaluation of culture dynamics. The recent techniques facilitating microscopic observation of cells; cell hybridization; and virus propagation and assay are also encompassed. The book further tackles the production of hormones and intercellular substances; the diagnosis and understanding of disease; as well as quality control measures. Scientists and professionals interested in methodology per se will find the book invaluable.

We collect here results on the existence and stability of weak solutions of complex Monge-Ampere equation proved by applying pluripotential theory methods and obtained in past three decades. First we set the stage introducing basic concepts and theorems of pluripotential theory. Then the Dirichlet problem for the complex Monge-Ampere equation is studied. The main goal is to give possibly detailed description of the nonnegative Borel measures which on the right hand side of the equation give rise to plurisubharmonic solutions satisfying additional requirements such as continuity, boundedness or some weaker ones. In the last part, the methods of pluripotential theory are implemented to prove the existence and stability of weak solutions of the complex Monge-Ampere equation on compact Kahler manifolds. This is a generalization of the Calabi-Yau theorem.

"Analytic and algebraic geometers often study the same geometric structures but bring different methods to bear on them. While this dual approach has been spectacularly successful at solving problems, the language differences between algebra and analysis also represent a difficulty for students and researchers in geometry, particularly complex geometry. The PCMI program was designed to partially address this language gulf, by presenting some of the active developments in algebraic and analytic geometry in a form suitable for students on the 'other side' of the analysis-algebra language divide. One focal point of the summer school was multiplier ideals, a subject of wide current interest in both subjects. The present volume is based on a series of lectures at the PCMI summer school on analytic and algebraic geometry. The series is designed to give a high-level introduction to the advanced techniques behind some recent developments in algebraic and analytic geometry. The lectures contain many illustrative examples, detailed computations, and new perspectives on the topics presented, in order to enhance access of this material to non-specialists."--Publisher's description.

This volume will explore the epidemiology and the basic mechanisms of each of these prenatal phenomena, in an attempt to explain the role of the prenatal environment in promoting postnatal weight gain. This information will contribute to resolving the nature-nurture controversy. This information provides guidance to clinical practitioners involved in both prenatal and postnatal care. This volume further stimulates research into underlying mechanisms and prevention and treatment of this phenomenon.
