This qualitative descriptive study explored the data from twenty-nine nursing homes in Missouri in which opportunity for resident care improvement was identified; to determine presence, and absence, of principles of the Everyday Excellence for Professional Nursing Practice in Long-Term Care Framework. Secondary data from a larger NINR-funded study were analyzed. That larger study was designed to test an intervention focused on building organizational capacity to create and sustain improvement in quality of care in twenty-nine nursing homes with identified opportunity for improvement in resident care. Findings of this secondary analysis identified presence of all principles of this Framework in twenty-nine homes receiving the intervention, although frequency was limited and variable. Select Quality Measure scores, as defined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, for each facility are also described. Findings of this study suggest a positive association between presence of select principles of the Everyday Excellence for Professional Nursing Practice in Long-Term Care Framework and improvement in select Quality Measure scores. Additional research is needed to support implementation and evaluate effectiveness of Professional Practice Models in long-term care and their impact on quality outcomes for older adults residing in nursing homes.
