Su obra maestra "Cien años de soledad", como representante del realismo mágico en Latinoamérica, intercala elementos mágicos y fantásticos en un contexto realista. Aunque estos elementos irreales e extraños nunca son explicados, son aceptados como algo cotidiano y común. Esta elaboración escrita intenta entrar en el universo mítico y simbólico de Gabriel García Márquez tomando como ejemplo su obra maestra "Cien años de soledad". El mito y las teorías sobre el mito representan un punto analítico especial en este trabajo definiendo lo que es el mito, su función y su estructura. Además se observa el mito desde un punto de vista filosófico- religioso (Mircea Eliade) y desde un punto de vista estructuralista (Lévi-Strauss). Relacionando las teorías sobre el mito con la literatura, el término de la conciencia mítica, que es parte de la novela mítica, está explicada, también.
