There are several books written by eminent writers on this subject but there is not a single book which has covered all technical and scientific information and observation experienced by modern scientist of the Era like 'Hippocrate' (father of the medicines), Dr. William Mckay Davidsion M.D. of Chicago, Dr. Kirillian of Russia, Upanishads of India (a great scientific book of ancient time which is a challenge to medical sciences and modern rescearchist and many more). Julius Firmicus Maternus, a native of Sicily, was a Roman lawyer of the senatorial class. He lived in the first half of the fourth century AD (c.280-c.360). He was also a student of Greek astrology, which forms the basis of this book. Of this book, James Herschel Holden writes, "The Mathesis is the lengthiest astrological treatise that has come down to us from the classical period. It consists of eight books, of which the first forms an introductory essay on astrology, and the rest set forth the fundamentals of Greek astrology. Several sections contain material that is found nowhere else...." (History of Horoscopic Astrology, pg. 66.) The translator writes, "Magic, philosophy, science and theology combine in strange ways in the thinking of the last centuries of the Roman empire..... Firmicus seemed worthy of note for many reasons. He is almost alone as author of works produced both before and after an apparent conversion to Christianity.... He left a lengthy handbook detailing the astrological practices of his day, the only work which has come down to us in its entirety [90% complete: Holden] out of numerous astrological treatises written in the Hellenistic and Roman periods..... This manual was important because it was the channel for astrological lore to the Middle Ages and Renaissance." (from the Preface) Jean Rhys Bram holds a degree in Latin from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Classics from New York University. She taught Latin, ancient Greek, and Mythology at Hunter College until her retirement. At 92, she continues to read widely and tutor students. She enjoys the company of twelve cats.

This book explores the changing perspective of astrology from the Middle Ages to the Early Modern Era. It introduces a framework for understanding both its former centrality and its later removal from legitimate knowledge and practice. The discussion reconstructs the changing roles of astrology in Western science, theology, and culture from 1250 to 1500. The author considers both the how and the why. He analyzes and integrates a broad range of sources. This analysis shows that the history of astrology—in particular, the story of the protracted criticism and ultimate removal of astrology from the realm of legitimate knowledge and practice—is crucial for fully understanding the transition from premodern Aristotelian-Ptolemaic natural philosophy to modern Newtonian science. This removal, the author argues, was neither obvious nor unproblematic. Astrology was not some sort of magical nebulous hodge-podge of beliefs. Rather, astrology emerged in the 13th century as a richly mathematical system that served to integrate astronomy and natural philosophy, precisely the aim of the “New Science” of the 17th century. As such, it becomes a fundamentally important historical question to determine why this promising astrological synthesis was rejected in favor of a rather different mathematical natural philosophy—and one with a very different causal structure than Aristotle's.

Weave the wisdom of every one of the 12 zodiac signs into your everyday life with supportive practices like creativity prompts, tarot card pulls, and seasonal rituals. You are all 12 signs. Going beyond the popular Sun-Moon-Rising astrology, this insightful guide inspires you to expand the possibilities of who you think you can be. Transformational astrologer Britten LaRue teaches you how to embrace the whole of the zodiac, with month-by-month invitations to connect with the part of yourself that is each sign. For example, if you don’t have any major placements in Leo in your chart, you might assume that you don’t have any Leo qualities. But when you decide that you’re not a Leo, you deny yourself the play, the visibility, and the big-hearted leadership that the Leo inside of you craves. Living Astrology shows you how to coax your inner Leo forward during Leo season with exercises like a tarot spread for accessing courage, journaling prompts to court your inner drag queen, and a ritual for connecting to your lion’s heart under the New Moon. With supportive practices like creativity prompts, tarot card pulls, and altar settings to help you live what you learn, Living Astrology offers a radical and fresh take on the ancient wisdom of astrology. Because astrology isn’t something that happens to you. It’s something you live.
