Download Case Studies of Transportation Investment to Identify the Impacts on the Local and State Economy Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This project provides case studies of the impact of transportation investments on local economies. We use multiple approaches to measure impacts since the effects of transportation projects can vary according to the size of a project and the size of the area under study, as well as other exogenous factors such as existing economic and demographic conditions. We measure effects on economic output and employment to estimate impacts of specific investments, and address issues of generative versus redistributive effects of investments, as well as identify specific economic sectors that might be disproportionately affected by such investments.

Download Factors that Support the Planning-programming Linkage Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This report contains a list of 39 factors that influence the linkage between programming and long-range plans. This list was developed from recent literature and extensive interviews with agency staff and other experts in the field. While the discussion of the critical factors is helpful, the report takes this topic one step further by providing suggested paths for improving the linkage between planning and programming.

Download Development of a Computer Program for Selecting Peak Dynamic Sensor Responses from Pavement Testing Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) routinely collects response data from pavement sensors as part of its pavement research studies. The largest source of response data is collected at the Minnesota Road Research (MnROAD) facility. To efficiently extract peak and baseline values from dynamic sensor responses, the University of Minnesota in 2001 developed an automated process for Mn/DOT researchers using the MATLAB® program. As time went on, sensor data format and computer operating system changes resulted in antiquation of the original peak-picking program. In 2006, the University of Minnesota was again secured to update the program using a current version of MATLAB®. Significant improvements were also made toward automating the peak and baseline response selection, and accommodating flexible data input types. This report combines the task reports and program user guide from the project into one source, to serve as a reference for future changes in the program. The computer program developed in this project has significantly increased dynamic response data processing from MnROAD and other pavement research studies.

Download Transportation Librarian's Toolkit Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The Transportation Librarian's Toolkit is a product of the Transportation Library Connectivity pooled fund study, TPF- 5(105), a collaborative, grass-roots effort by transportation libraries to enhance information accessibility and professional expertise to serve the transportation community. At the time of publication study members included state DOT libraries in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Kansas, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Louisiana; and the University Transportation Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to the Toolkit, the study has also published an Interim Report of the formation, major activities and accomplishments of the study from its launch in October 2004 through its third annual meeting in September 2007. The Technical Advisory Committee members of the pooled fund study were instrumental in creating this toolkit, which is a product of the collective work of the study. The purposes of this toolkit are to ease the learning curve of those new to librarianship and/or transportation; to pull together the collective wisdom of pooled fund members on topics that the pooled fund has addressed through its work of connecting and networking transportation libraries; to serve as a living document, updated frequently in print and online; to capture some of the institutional memory that is leaving the DOTs as waves of retirements loom; and to give transportation librarians of varying experience levels and work situations some tools to inspire, enhance and streamline librarians' work as well as library operations to make the transportation library an indispensable resource within the parent organization.
