This textbook presents an extensive manual of crystallography, including geometric crystallography, crystallochemistry, and crystallophysics. Illustrated with a wealth of figures and diagrams, it offers a thorough introduction to crystals for undergraduate and graduate students interested in learning the essentials and advanced concepts of crystallography. The book begins with basic concepts such as the geometry, morphology and symmetry of lattices, allowing readers to approach the subject from a mathematical point of view, abstracting it from its material content. In turn, the second part focuses on crystallochemistry and explains the differences between ideal and real crystals, and between static and dynamic ones. The third part of the textbook concerns crystallophysics and addresses the electrical, magnetic, mechanical, elastic and optical properties of crystals, as well as the fundamental laws and methods of X-ray diffraction.

This book presents the second volume of a complete development of the new structural classification of minerals, which is based on the internal crystal structure, and is therefore its natural classification. Because of the large domain of the mineral kingdom, this work is divided into three volumes, in which the minerals are ordered from the structurally simple to the more complex. Audience: This work will be of particular interest to teachers and research workers in mineralogy, and in inorganic crystal structures in academia.

This work presents a novel pure structural classification of minerals, based on the minerals' internal structure. In more detail, it is based on the strength distribution and directional character of the bonds. This new classification may be considered as an extension of the structural classification of silicates, to the complete domain of minerals. A complete and well organized overview of 230 mineral structure types comprizing the more common minerals is presented in chart form. On the charts, the crystal structures are presented in a number of complementary ways such as in projection, close packing, coordinated polyhedra and layer description. This work is of particular interest to teachers and research workers in crystallography, mineralogy and inorganic crystal chemistry in academia.

Crystallography remains, for mineralogy, one of the main sources of information on natural crystalline substances. A description of mineral species shape is carried out according to the principles of geometric crystallography; the crystal structure of minerals is determined using X-ray crystallography techniques, and physical crystallography approaches allow one to evaluate various properties of minerals, etc. However, the reverse comparison should not be forgotten as well: the crystallography science, in its current form, was born in the course of mineralogical research, long before preparative chemistry received such extensive development. It is worth noting that, even today, investigations of crystallographic characteristics of minerals regularly open up new horizons in materials science, because the possibilities of nature (fascinating chemical diversity; great variation of thermodynamic parameters; and, of course, almost endless processing time) are still not available for reproduction in any of the world's laboratories. This Special Issue is devoted to mineralogical crystallography, the oldest branch of crystallographic science, and aims to combine important surveys covering topics indicated in the keywords below.
