It is in the center of Iredell County, of which it is the county seat and principal city. This locality is in the heart of the Piedmont Section of North Caro lina. Charlotte is some 40 miles directly south of Statesville, while Raleigh, the state capital, is 150 miles to the east. The surrounding country is high, rolling, well drained land. The Catawba River, into which the drainage from this section empties, is some 10 miles to the southwest. A network of national and state hard surface highways radiates from Statesville. The highway system includes Route No. 10, from the Atlantic Coast to the Tennessee - Georgia line, Route No. 26, a Great Lakes to Florida highway, Route No. 90, from south North Caro Iina to Blowing Rock, connecting at Lenoir through to the coast, and Route No. 115 to Winston Salem. Bus service operated by the Queen City Bus Company, 30 schedules, and the Greyhound Lines provides 56 busses to all points daily. 6 Parkway busses every 24 hours. A number of motor truck lines operating out of and through Statesville provide frequent and rapid highway freight and express service.
