Joy to her peo ple in this, that in the time of greatest need of our beloved country, she raised up and sent forth to succor and to save, three of her sons who seem to have been called of God for this very work. In one of her obscure cabins Abraham Lincoln, all unknown to the world and 1to himself, was being fitted for the supreme command in the great war for the life and liberty of the Nation. In a leather store in Galena, Ulysses S. Grant was being hidden awaiting the moment in time when he would be needed to lead the armies to victory in the great cause. In the pioneer court houses of Southern Illinois, plead ing for justice for the common people, John A. Logan was being pre 'pared for the crisis when he, more than all others, should arouse, enlist, and lead the volunteer soldiers of the North, who were to play -such a large part in the struggle for national union. It 1s well that the school children should study the lives of these great men. Such as these are the morning star of hope to the young who aspire to serve their country in any day and generation. On the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of his birth, the children were given the opportunity to study the life of Abraham Lincoln.
