We measure the mass of b-hadrons in exclusive J/[psi]-decay modes. The correct momentum scale is established by the following steps: validate and quantify distortions or systematic effects in the Central Outer Tracker and Silicon Vertex Detector, apply and fine tune the energy loss corrections per track, and finally tune the magnetic field scale. With the momentum scale established, we find: m(B) = 5279.10 ± 0.41 (stat) ± 0.36 (sys), m(B0) = 5279.63 ± 0.53 (stat) ± 0.33 (sys), m(B[s]0) = 5366.01 ± 0.73 (stat) ± 0.33 (sys), m(A[b]) = 5619.7 ± 1.2 (stat) ± 1.2 (sys) MeV/c2. The measurements of the A[b] and B[s], masses are the current world best. The value of the A[b] mass is consistent with the CDF run I measurement resolving a discrepancy in the PDG average.

For a long time after the discovery in 1964, by Christenson, Cronin, Fitch and Turlay, that the long-lived neutral kaon decays both into three and into two pions, which has since been taken as proof of CP violation, successive new and more precise experiments confirmed the original evidence and provided results compatible with a phenomenological description confining the CP violation to the mixing between neutral kaons and antikaons. However the Standard Model, with three generations of quarks, linking as it does CP violation to the presence of a single non trivial phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix, implies that if CP violation exists at all, then it is a general property of weak interactions, appearing in transitions were amplitudes involving all three quark families interfere with each other, producing effects with a magnitude related to that of the CKM coefficients. This fact has stimulated an impressive amount of theoretical work leading in many cases to precise predictions. This publication reviews the field, from both the theoretical and experimental point of view, while planning for the forthcoming experimentation at LHC and considering possible new facilities for kaon, B meson and neutrino physics. This conference series reviews progress in understanding the physics of the 5th quark (beauty quark or bottom quark) and the properties of particles containing a b-quark. These quarks are produced at particle accelerators such as electron-positron accelerators or hadron colliders with the latter being the focus of the conference. One of the main issues in understanding the physics of the 5th quark is CP violation, a mechanism in particle physics that breaks the symmetry of nature between particles and antiparticles ultimately connected to the particle-antiparticle asymmetry of the universe. Topics include: recent results; CP violation; B production and spectroscopy; detectors, hardware, and computing; Vucb, Vub, and factorization; B lifetimes and mixing; rare decays; B trigger at future experiments; B physics at future hadron machines; the future of flavor.

Hadron colliders probe physics at new energy frontiers and search for new particles and forces. In addition, hadron colliders now provide also an environment for precision physics. The present volume collects the results from recently completed runs at major colliders as well as new ideas about collider physics and techniques. It will serve as the main source of reference in the field for many years to come.

Between 1992 and 1996 CDF collected about 100 pb−1 of data at a √s = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. This data sample led to a large number of precision measurements of B hadrons properties including their masses, lifetimes and neutral B meson oscillation parameters and the discovery of the B{sub c} meson. Here the author reports on three recent results: the measurement of the B+ production cross section, the search for radiative penguin B hadron decays and the measurement of the CP violating parameter sin 2[beta]. These results are significant examples of the breadth of the CDF program. In 2001 the main injector will allow the Tevatron initially to deliver 1 fb−1 per year at √s = 2 TeV. The CDF detector will undergo major upgrades which will further increase the B physics reach.

We present recent measurements by the CDF and D{O} Collaborations at the Tevatron Collider on the masses and lifetimes of B hadrons. The results are compared to predictions based on Heavy Quark Effective Theory, lattice gauge theory, and quark models.

This will be a required acquisition text for academic libraries. More than ten years after its discovery, still relatively little is known about the top quark, the heaviest known elementary particle. This extensive survey summarizes and reviews top-quark physics based on the precision measurements at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, as well as examining in detail the sensitivity of these experiments to new physics. Finally, the author provides an overview of top quark physics at the Large Hadron Collider.
