Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Berlin, course: International Management, language: English, abstract: Marketing is onmipresent. The contemporary human being is permanently confronted with marketing in all its expressions. Today’s consumers are persistently faced with a downright overflow of advertisement, sales promotion, commercials in all media channels, real and virtual, with conscious and unconscious stimuli. However, the ability of every targeted customer to perceive information is very limited. But even a smaller percentage of advertising messages can be recognized and considered as being relevant. Therefore consumers often feel harassed by the quantity and quality of advertising and react protective, especially when they don’t belong to the target group of the advertised product or service. Budget waste and damage to the brand image can be a disastrous result. But what does really make a customer a buyer? What are the trigger factors that motivate the customer to shop and convince him to purchase a product again and again? This is a question every single company in every single industry on today’s globalised market is confronted with. And the answer seems to be so simple: the right marketing strategy together with its proper implementation lead a business to success and market shares to growth. One of the most important tools of strategic marketing is market segmentation. In this Term Paper I would like to emphasize the significant relevance of market segmentation in the European and global markets. At the beginning the position of market segmentation within the strategic management is determined. As the environment in which marketing occurs is crucial it is amplified in the following chapter. Further on market segmentation is defined and set into the historical and modern frame of strategic management and marketing. Finally, functionality, the common failures and problems in the use of that strategic instrument are particularized and possible solutions are offered

Frameworks for Market Strategy helps students understand how to develop and implement a market strategy and how to manage the marketing process. Marketing activity is the source of insight on the market, customers, and competitors and lies at the core of leading and managing a business. To understand how marketing fits into the broader challenge of managing a business, Capon and Go address marketing management both at the business and functional levels. The book moves beyond merely presenting established procedures, processes, and practices and includes new material based on cutting-edge research to ensure students develop strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills for success. In this European edition, Capon and Go have retained the strong framework of the book, but have updated the cases, examples, and discussions to increase the book’s relevance for students outside the USA. Key features include: • A strong strategic focus, teaching students how to analyze markets, customers, and competitors to plan, execute, and evaluate a winning market strategy • Practical examples from a range of contexts, allowing students to develop the skills necessary to work in for-profit, public, or non-profit firms • Emphasis on understanding the importance of working across organizational boundaries to align firm capabilities • Full chapters devoted to key topics, including brand management, digital marketing, marketing metrics, and ethical as well as social responsibilities • Focus on globalization with a chapter on regional and international marketing • Multiple choice, discussion, and essay questions at the end of each chapter Offering an online instructor’s manual and a host of useful pedagogy – including videos, learning outcomes, opening cases, key ideas, exercises, discussion questions, a glossary, and more – this book will provide a solid foundation in marketing management, both for those who will work in marketing departments, and those who will become senior executives.

Euromarketing: Effective Strategies for International Trade and Export increases understanding of the strategic aspects of international marketing in Europe and highlights the past, present, and future of European marketing. Although a substantial body of literature is available on the marketing behavior and practices of business in the international context, strategic planning aspects of international marketing have not been studied adequately. Euromarketing: Effective Strategies for International Trade and Export focuses on marketing studies of specific regions to provide international managers with insights into their international marketing performance. This book presents the results of comparative studies conducted among countries of Europe and contrasts the results and managerial implications with those obtained by international marketing scholars and practitioners elsewhere. The European community is going to play an extremely important role in the coming global business arena. Multinational corporations, government agencies, professors, researchers, and students can seek out opportunities in the new European market once they have updated their knowledge of how this market may function. The topics covered in Euromarketing provide for this knowledge with new data and insight on: Consumer Issues: Single Market and its Implications Export Behavior of European Firms Internationalization of European Firms Retailing Practices in European Countries Country Examples of European Distribution Channels Comparative Advertising Practices Internationalization of Scandinavian Firms Export Marketing Managerial Implications The restructuring of European industries has begun and will accelerate at a faster pace in the coming years. We have witnessed occurrences of several mergers and acquisitions. We are seeing the powerful presence of public sector enterprises and their procurement practices favoring local and European supplies. Euromarketing: Effective Strategies for International Trade and Export increases our understanding of international marketing in Europe by soliciting significant, analytical contributions from subject and country specialists.
