About the Author ?Big Adam? was born and raised in Cherokee, North Carolina, and attends Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. He plans to graduate in May 2003 with a degree in Journalism. He loves to write, go bowling, take long walks alone late at night, read, go to church, cats, driving alone late at night, and is a huge fan of Godzilla, Garfield, and race car driver Jeff Gordon. He also serves as editor of the university newspaper. He started to write at the young age of four when he discovered the wonder of pens and pencils. His first stories were written and illustrated on plain white paper and stapled together. By age nine, he had written a story about a young boy who was the victim of sexual harassment from a babysitter. It was a concept way ahead of his own time and knowledge. His writings soon became more vivid and more chillingly realistic, possibly due to years of child abuse and being harassed at school by both teachers and peers. After one of his stories was discovered in his bedroom, its realism content sent his folks into a fury. They threatened him if he ever wrote something like that ever again, which was nothing more than the truth of what he was going through at the time. After that, he had to write and express himself in secret, when he was certain nobody would know that he was still cultivating his talent as a writer. He was finally removed from this abusive environment when he was 12. A trip to the beach in 1993 sparked his imagination like nothing else. The idea for one of his first novels was born, and it would take him another seven years to finish. That novel, The Writer, appeared in Spring 2001. He has also started several other novels and he vows tofinish all of them.

That character trait doesn’t always make him popular with his clients, but he always has the best interest of the children at heart. When he’s sent to alpha Rex Bronan’s home to care for his four-year-old son, Con immediately spots a loving father who has trouble showing that love. His wife dumped him a year after his son was born because he was such a workaholic. He knows he isn’t the best father in the world, but he didn’t really think he was the worst either. What’s a Park Avenue working mom to do when her troubled son desperately needs a male role model and her husband is a power workaholic? If she’s like the gutsy heroine of Holly Peterson’s astute new comedy of manners among the ill-mannered elite, she does what every other woman on the block does. She hires herself a “manny.” A solid middle-class girl from Middle America, Jamie Whitfield isn’t “one of them” but she lives in “the Grid,” the wealthiest acre of real estate in Manhattan, where big money and big media collide. And she has most everything they have–a big new apartment, full-time help with her three children, as well as her very own detached Master of the Universe attorney husband. What she doesn’t have, however, is a full-time father figure for their struggling nine-year-old son, Dylan. But the rich haven’t yet encountered a problem they can’t hire someone else to solve. Enter the manny. At first the idea of paying a man to provide a role model for Dylan sounds too crazy to be true. But one look at Peter Bailey is enough to convince Jamie that the idea may not be quite so insane after all. Peter is calm, cool, competent, and so charmingly down-to-earth, he’s irresistible. And with the political sex scandal of the decade propelling her career as a news producer into overdrive, and her increasingly erratic husband locked in his study with suspicious files, Jamie is in serious need of some grounding. Peter reminds her of everything she once was, still misses, and underneath all the high-society glitz, still is. But will the new manny in her life put the ground back beneath her feet, or sweep her off them?

The Projects: Life and Times in Marble Hill brings to life the detailed story of author Tony Licchi Jr.'s youth in this Bronx neighborhood during the fifties and sixties. Sharing events both large and small, it's a story filled with long-lasting friendships and relationships. This memoir narrates stories about the people, places, and events in the Marble Hill projects from the age of seven until he married and left home. Licchi describes the pushcart man outside of school selling jellied apples on a stick and shaved ice in a cup; the seltzer man delivering seltzer bottles with chocolate syrup; and the games the children played such as Johnny on the pony, hide-and-seek, and ring-a-leeveo. Setting his experiences against the backdrop of the times while referencing current and historical events, and music and popular culture, The Projects: Life and Times in Marble Hill represents a unique period in Licchi's life. It encompasses both happy and sad experiences and brings forth nostalgic memories of a first date, the first kiss, dances, and fun times in the good old days.
